The role of lattice defects on the optical properties of TiO[sub]2 nanotube arrays for synergistic water splitting

Opis: In this study, we report a facile one-step chemical method to synthesize reduced titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotube arrays (NTAs) with point defects. Treatment with NaBH4 introduces oxygen vacancies (OVs) in the TiO2 lattice. Chemical analysis and optical studies indicate that the OV density can be significantly increased by changing reduction time treatment, leading to higher optical transmission of the TiO2 NTAs and retarded carrier recombination in the photoelectrochemical process. A cathodoluminescence (CL) study of reduced TiO2 (TiO2–x) NTAs revealed that OVs contribute significantly to the emission bands in the visible range. It was found that the TiO2 NTAs reduced for a longer duration exhibited a higher concentration of OVs. A typical CL spectrum of TiO2 was deconvoluted to four Gaussian components, assigned to F, F+, and Ti3+ centers.

Linguistic equilibrium with local and world languages : challenges of globalisation

Opis: In this paper we introduce a model of a society with two distinct linguistic groups, each consisting of heterogeneous individuals speaking their native language. There is also a world language so that every individual is faced with four learning choices: to study the other local language only, to study the world language only, to study both, and to refrain from studying either language. We examine the Nash equilibiria of that game determined by communicative benefits (Selten & Pool), and address inefficiency of the equilibrium. We then show that government subsidies for language learning could serve as welfare‐enhancing policies. Finally, we analyze the three‐language policy, certain variants of which have been adopted in multilingual countries or regions.

Slow interatomic Coulombic decay of multiply excited neon clusters

Opis: Ne clusters (∼ 5000 atoms) were resonantly excited (2 p→ 3 s) by intense free electron laser (FEL) radiation at FERMI. Such multiply excited clusters can decay nonradiatively via energy exchange between at least two neighboring excited atoms. Benefiting from the precise tunability and narrow bandwidth of seeded FEL radiation, specific sites of the Ne clusters were probed. We found that the relaxation of cluster surface atoms proceeds via a sequence of interatomic or intermolecular Coulombic decay (ICD) processes while ICD of bulk atoms is additionally affected by the surrounding excited medium via inelastic electron scattering. For both cases, cluster excitations relax to atomic states prior to ICD, showing that this kind of ICD is rather slow (picosecond range). Controlling the average number of excitations per cluster via the FEL intensity allows a coarse tuning of the ICD rate.

Sistem avtomatskega vodenja delilnega stroja za pekarsko industrijo

Opis: V diplomski nalogi so prikazani opisi sistema avtomatskega vodenja delilnega stroja, strukture sistema vodenja, strojnega dela računalniške opreme in programskega dela računalniške opreme ter preizkus delilnega stroja, kjer je opisan postopek preizkušanja stroja. Delilni stroj je avtomatski delilnik testa in je del linije za obdelavo testa. Njegov namen je, da velike količine testa zreže na majhne kose. Stroj ima več načinov delovanja oziroma deljenja kosov testa. Razlika med načini delovanja je vsota število kosov, ki padejo istočasno na notranji transporter, kar določa naročnik stroja oziroma projekta. Namen diplomskega dela je predstaviti sistem vodenja delilnega stroja, opisati pretvarjanje in nadgradnjo obstoječe programske kode ter pretvorbo vmesnika človek – stroj za delilni stroj, narejen v razvojnem okolju podjetja Omron, v izvedbo razvojnega okolja podjetja Siemens. V diplomskem delu so opisi celotnega sistema vodenja delilnega stroja ter pretvorbe in nadgradnje programske opreme. Opravljen je tudi preizkus delovanja avtomatsko vodenega delilnega stroja. Delilni stroj, ki je bil izdelan po zahtevah stranke, je bil uspešno preizkušen in predan stranki.

Unraveling the arrangement of Al and Fe within the framework explains the magnetism of mixed-metal MIL-100(Al,Fe)

Opis: Properties of mixed-metal MOFs depend on the distribution of different metals within their frameworks. Determination of this distribution is often very challenging. Using an example of aluminum- and iron-containing MIL-100, we demonstrate that 27Al NMR spectroscopy, when combined with first-principles calculations and magnetic, X-band electron paramagnetic resonance, Fe K-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure, and Mössbauer measurements, enables one to accurately determine the arrangement of Al and Fe within the metal trimers, which are the basic building units of MIL-100. In this particular material, the incorporation of Fe and Al on the framework metal sites is random. Crucial for deciphering the arrangement is detecting NMR signals, shifted because of the strong hyperfine interaction between the 27Al nuclei and the unpaired electronic spins of Fe3+ ions, assigning the shifted signals aided by first-principles calculations of hyperfine couplings, and quantitatively evaluating the NMR intensities and the measured effective magnetic moment.

Surface modified titanium dioxide using transition metals : nickel as a winning transition metal for solar light photocatalysis

Opis: Titanium dioxide has been widely used as an antimicrobial agent, UV-filter and catalyst for pollution abatement. Herein, surface modifications with selected transition metals (Me) over colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles and immobilization with a colloidal SiO2 binder as composite films (MeTiO2/SiO2) on a glass carrier were used to enhance solar-light photoactivity. Colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles were modified by loading selected transition metals (Me ¼ Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) in the form of chlorides on their surface. They were present primarily as oxo-nanoclusters and a portion as metal oxides. The structural characteristics of bare TiO2 were preserved up to an optimal metal loading of 0.5 wt%. We have shown in situ that metal-oxo-nanoclusters with a redox potential close to that of O2/O2 were able to function as co-catalysts on the TiO2 surface which was excited by solar-light irradiation. The materials were tested for photocatalytic activity by two opposite methods; one detecting O2 (reduction, Rz ink test) while the other detecting OH (oxidation, terephthalic acid test). It was shown that the enhancement of the solar-light activity of TiO2 by the deposition of transition metal oxo-nanoclusters on the surface depends strongly on the combination of the reduction potential of such species and appropriate band positions of their oxides. The latter prevented excessive self-recombination of the photogenerated charge carriers by the nanoclusters in Ni and Zn modification, which was probably the case in other metal modifications. Overall, only Ni modification had a positive effect on solar photoactivity in both oxidation and reduction reactions.

Učinkovitost ukrepov za spodbujanje zaposlovanja invalidov

Opis: Osrednji namen diplomskega dela je preučiti in oceniti učinkovitost ukrepov za spodbujanje zaposlovanja invalidov. Dejstvo je, da so invalidi ena najbolj ranljivih skupin na trgu dela, saj se soočajo s številnimi izzivi in pri delu potrebujejo pomoč in podporo tako s strani države kot s strani samih delodajalcev. Cilj diplomske naloge je torej predstaviti obstoječe ukrepe za spodbujanje zaposlovanja invalidov in iskati najboljše možne ukrepe za spodbujanje zaposlovanja invalidov v bodoče.

Pursuing the stabilisation of crystalline nanostructured magnetic manganites through a green low temperature hydrothermal synthesis

Opis: A quick, easy and green water-based synthesis protocol involving coprecipitation of oxalates combined with hydrothermal treatment resulted in the crystallisation of nanostructured manganites at a relatively low temperature (180 °C). The subcritical hydrothermal approach was shown to play a key role in stabilising phases which are generally achieved at much higher temperatures and under harsher conditions, thus disclosing an exciting alternative for their synthesis. Through this mild wet chemistry approach, the compounds CuMnO2, ZnMn2O4 and ZnMnO3 were synthesised as nanocrystalline powders. Noticeably, the optimised route proved to be effective in stabilising the exotic polymorph cubic spinel ZnMnO3 in pure form. This is particularly notable, as very few records concerning this compound are available in the literature. The compounds were fully characterised from compositional, structural, morphological and magnetic points of view.
