Investigation of Slovenian copular agreement
Franc Marušič, Rok Žaucer, 2021, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: This paper reports on a detailed investigation of agreement inside simple predicative sentences. In this type of sentence, both noun phrases are in the nominative, so in principle either one can trigger agreement on the copular verb. We examine various types of copular contructions and show that regardless of the type of predicative sentence, when a plural is combined with a singular, it is always the plural that agrees. Similarly, when a dual is combined with a singular, the dual wins out. But when we combine a dual and a plural, the copula can agree with either of the two noun phrases, with a preference for the noun phrase following the copula. We discuss the relevance of these findings for recent literature on predication.

A non-singular method of fundamental solutions for two-dimensional steady-state isotropic thermoelasticity problems
qingguo liu, Božidar Šarler, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: We consider a boundary meshless numerical solution for two-dimensional linear static thermoelastic problems. The formulation of the problem is based on the approach of Marin and Karageorghis, where the Laplace equation for the temperature field is solved first, followed by a particular solution of the non-homogenous term in the Navier-Lamé system for the displacement, the solution of the homogenous equilibrium equations, and finally the application of the superposition principle. The solution of the problem is based on the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) with source points on the boundary. This is, by complying with the Dirichlet boundary conditions, achieved by the replacement of the concentrated point sources with distributed sources over the disk around the singularity, and for complying with the Neumann boundary conditions by assuming a balance of the heat fluxes and the forces. The derived non-singular MFS is assessed by a comparison with analytical solutions and the MFS for problems that can include different materials in thermal and mechanical contact. The method is easy to code, accurate, efficient and represents a pioneering attempt to solve thermoelastic problems with a MFS-type method without an artificial boundary. The procedure makes it possible to solve a broad spectra of thermomechanical problems.

Non-Singular Method of Fundamental Solutions for Two-dimensional Thermoelasticity
liu qingguo, Božidar Šarle, objavljeni povzetek znanstvenega prispevka na konferenci

Opis: A framework for simulation of thermomechanical processing of microstructures by the method of fundamental solutions, free of artificial boundary, is shown. The formulation of the method for two-dimensional thermal and mechanical models is presented. In particular, the formulation for thermo-elastic problems is discussed. In the thermal and mechanical models, the concentrated point sources are replaced by the distributed sources over the sphere around the singularity to regularize the singularities and the balance of forces is used to calculate some of the otherwise singular diagonal coefficients. This procedure enables also for solving problems with internal voids and inclusions. The novel boundary meshless method has been assessed by comparison with MFS and analytical solution. The method is easy to code, accurate, and efficient.

Properties of Null Hypersurfaces
Hovhannes Demirtshyan, 2016, magistrsko delo

Opis: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects that a lightlike singular hypersurface can have on a congruence of timelike (spacelike) geodesics and to extend the existing theory to the case of null geodesics. The introduction discusses the applications of singular hypersurfaces for the description of physical phenomena, their major classfications and includes a short discussion of the two theoretical approaches that exist to study singular hypersurfaces. The second chapter contains detailed description of these approaches. The theoretical frameworks for both cases of lightlike and timelike (spacelike) hypersurfaces are developed. This chapter also discusses the application of these theories to the case when the hypersurface contains a plane fronted lightlike signal. The final chapter starts with a discussion of the effects that a lightlike singular hypersurface can have on a congruence of timelike (spacelike) geodesics. A new approach to these calculations is presented together with an extension of the theory to the case of a congruence of null geodesics. At the end of the chapter a concrete example and its similarities with the case of timelike geodesics is discussed. In conclusion, the thesis suggests a new mathematical framework for describing a congruence of null geodesics crossing a singular null hypersurface. The results may be applied in experimental physics to detect impulsive signals which are located in singular null hypersurfaces and to this end there is a discussion of the properties and possibilities for a detector of impulsive lightlike signals, which include gravitational waves.
