4554. A Mechanistic Study of Magnesium Sulfur BatteriesAna Robba, Alen Vižintin, Jan Bitenc, Gregor Mali, Iztok Arčon, Matjaž Kavčič, Matjaž Žitnik, Klemen Bučar, Giuliana Aquilanti, Charlotte Martineau-Corcos, Anna Randon-Vitanova, Robert Dominko, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Magnesium sulfur batteries are considered as attractive energy storage devices due to the
abundance of electrochemically active materials and high theoretical energy density. Here we
report the mechanism of a Mg-S battery operation, which was studied in the presence of
simple and commercially available salts dissolved in a mixture of glymes. The electrolyte
offers high sulfur conversion into MgS in the first discharge with low polarization. The
electrochemical conversion of sulfur with magnesium proceeds through two well-defined
plateaus, which correspond to the equilibrium between sulfur and polysulfides (high-voltage
plateau) and polysulfides and MgS (low-voltage plateau). As shown by XANES, RIXS and
NMR studies, the end discharge phase involves MgS with Mg atoms in a tetrahedral
environment resembling the wurtzite structure, while chemically synthesized MgS crystalizes
in the rock-salt structure with octahedral coordination of magnesium. Ključne besede: magnesium, sulfur, rechargeable batteries, XAS, NMR Objavljeno v RUNG: 19.10.2017; Ogledov: 4403; Prenosov: 0 Gradivo ima več datotek! Več... |

Whole-cell biopanning with a synthetic phage display library of nanobodies enabled the recovery of follicle-stimulating hormone receptor inhibitorsRonan Crepin, Gianluca Veggiani, Selma Djender, Anne Beugnet, Francois Planeix, Christophe Pichon, Sandrine Moutel, Sebastian Amigorena, Franck Pérez, Nicolae Ghinea, Ario De Marco, 2017, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Antibodies are essential reagents that are increasingly used in diagnostics and therapy. Their specificity
and capacity to recognize their native antigen are critical characteristics for their in vivo application.
Follicle-stimulating hormone receptor is a GPCR protein regulating ovarian follicular maturation and
spermatogenesis. Recently, its potentiality as a cancer biomarker has been demonstrated but no antibody
suitable for in vivo tumor targeting and treatment has been characterized so far. In this paper we describe
the first successful attempt to recover recombinant antibodies against the FSHR and that: i) are directly
panned from a pre-immune library using whole cells expressing the target receptor at their surface; ii)
show inhibitory activity towards the FSH-induced cAMP accumulation; iii) do not share the same epitope
with the natural binder FSH; iv) can be produced inexpensively as mono- or bivalent functional molecules
in the bacterial cytoplasm. We expect that the proposed biopanning strategy will be profitable to
identify useful functional antibodies for further members of the GPCR class. Ključne besede: nanobodies, GPCR proteins, FSHR, panning, pre-immune antibody library Objavljeno v RUNG: 19.10.2017; Ogledov: 4004; Prenosov: 0 Gradivo ima več datotek! Več... |

4558. Simulations of Tidal Disruption Events Observations with the LSSTKatja Bricman, 2017, magistrsko delo Opis: The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) will produce a multi-colour survey of 25000 square deg of the Southern sky during its 10 years of operations. It will observe over 20 billion galaxies and a similar number of stars, map the Solar System and the Milky Way, and probe dark matter and dark energy. In addition, it will discover thousands of transients every night, including new classes of objects, which have not yet been observed. Due to its large coverage of the sky it will be a perfect tool for the search of rare Tidal Disruption Events (TDEs), which occur when a star passes close by a supermassive black hole and gets disrupted by its tidal force. Afterwards the stellar debris fall back to the black hole, initially at a rate exceeding
the Eddington rate, producing an outflow, which releases a flare of energy. When the fallback rate subsides below the Eddington rate, the gas accretes onto the black hole via accretion disk. The LSST simulation framework enables us to simulate observations of different types of objects with the LSST. In this work, we include TDEs in the LSST simulation framework, estimate the number of detected TDEs, and simulate their light curves using a theoretical model, which predicts a t^(-2.6) light curve decline with time in the outflow phase and a t^{-0.4} decline in the disk phase. We also take a closer look at the distribution of the detected TDEs over cosmological redshift and black hole mass.
