Biodiversity communication through art in the form of digital games and the communication potential of related online communities : diploma thesis
Tijana Mijušković, 2023, undergraduate thesis

Abstract: Biodiversity communication is becoming increasingly important in today’s age, as climate change and other factors contribute to the rapid decline of species and ecosystems across the globe. Art is growing in popularity as a tool of reaching people regarding environmental causes, as they convey the emotional, human side of this endeavor in a way that typical science communication isn’t able to. Digital games, arguably among the most persuasive art forms and now widely accessible, are well suited to educating as well as emotionally influencing their players. Online communities frequently form around games, providing a platform for discussion and potentially increasing the games’ total potential for biodiversity communication. In this thesis, the content of eight games from Steam’s list of top-rated games tagged with ‘Nature’ was analyzed, and seven online communities related to these games on the Discord and Reddit social media platforms were surveyed. There was found to be a number of different approaches among the eight games towards educating players about biodiversity and/or its conservation, and the survey of communities showed care towards and interest in biodiversity-related discussion and conservation gaming itself, as well as the fact that games and related discussion in online communities has potential to educate players and positively influence their interest in biodiversity topics. Online game-related communities may offer an additional avenue of approaching game players about biodiversity for science communicators, researchers, and game developers alike.

A novel multi-functional thiophene-based organic cation as passivation, crystalline orientation, and organic spacer agent for low-dimensional 3D/1D perovskite solar cells
Ali Semerci, Ali Buyruk, Saim Emin, Rik Hooijer, Daniela Kovacheva, Peter Mayer, Manuel A. Reus, Dominic Blätte, Marcella Günther, Nicolai F. Hartmann, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: Recently, the mixed-dimensional (3D/2D or 3D/1D) perovskite solar cellsusing small organic spacers have attracted interest due to their outstandinglong-term stability. Here, a new type of thiophene-based organic cation2-(thiophene-2yl-)pyridine-1-ium iodide (ThPyI), which is used to fabricatemixed-dimensional 3D/1D perovskite solar cells, is presented. TheThPyI-based 1D perovskitoid is applied as a passivator on top of a 3D methylammonium lead iodide (MAPI) to fabricate surface-passivated 3D/1Dperovskite films or added alone into the 3D perovskite precursor to generatebulk-passivated 3D MAPI. The 1D perovskitoid acts as a passivating agent atthe grain boundaries of surface-passivated 3D/1D, which improves the powerconversion efficiency (PCE) of the solar cells. Grazing incidence wide-angleX-ray scattering (GIWAXS) studies confirm that ThPyI triggers the preferentialorientation of the bulk MAPI slabs, which is essential to enhance chargetransport. Champion bulk-passivated 3D and surface-passivated 3D/1Ddevices yield 14.10% and 19.60% PCE, respectively. The bulk-passivated 3Doffers favorable stability, with 84% PCE retained after 2000 h withoutencapsulation. This study brings a new perspective to the design of organicspacers having a different binding motif and a passivation strategy to mitigatethe impact of defects in hybrid 3D/1D perovskite solar cells.A. IntroductionDuring the last decade, 3D organic–inorganic halide perovskites (OIHPs) haveemerged as promising absorber materialsfor photovoltaic applications due to theirsuperior properties such as high absorp-tion coefficient, long diffusion length ofthe charge carriers, fast charge transport, and tunable bandgap. The 3D OIHPs havedemonstrated rapid increase in powerconversion efficiency (PCE) from 3.8% to25.2%.[1–9]On the other hand, their mod-erate intrinsic stability against moistureand heat still has been a concern with aview on possible commercialization.[10–14]Instability of the 3D methyl ammoniumlead iodide (MAPI) perovskite is assumedto be due to its crystalline structure. Ionicmigration is now well recognized to affectthe photovoltaic properties of perovskitesolar cells. Especially, the ionic migrationcauses the generation and displacement ofvacancies in perovskite materials. OIHPsare mixed ionic–electronic conductors withiodide ions as the majority of ionic carriers.D. Spreminjanje imaginarija napredka in rasti v avantgardnih in intermedijskih umetniških praksah
Kristina Pranjić, Peter Purg, 2023, original scientific article

Abstract: Članek povezuje umetnostno avantgardo z začetka dvajsetega stoletja ter današnjo intermedijsko in družbeno angažirano umetniško prakso.

// Crypto-Minding: postindustrijski podatkovni aktivizem : PostMobilnost; GO!2025 Evropska prestolnica kulture
Marina Zafiris, Christopher Csikszentmihalyi, exhibition

Abstract: // Stoletje obsedene industrializacije nam je širom zemeljske oble zapustilo obilico poceni energije, zemljišč in infrastrukture.

Learn to Resist : New glocal resilience strategies of cultural institutions for a solidary art production
Peter Purg, Birste Sonnenberg, 2023, radio or television broadcast, podcast, interview, press conference

Abstract: Closures of cultural institutions as a result of the Corona pandemic, right-wing populist cultural agendas (and even policies!) that work against independent media and cultural workers, and then the Russian attacks on Ukrainian cultural institutions, attempting to erase a country's cultural identity, and artistic vitality. And then there's an obviously more and more fragile nature -- the waters below and the atmospheres above us in chaos. In times of multiple, overlapping crises, cultural institutions and festivals face the challenge of addressing these grievances through glocal processes of adaptation and learning, to become RESILIENT = prepared for change and emergencies, mastering them as robustly and creatively as possible. What resilience strategies are needed at the regional and global level to enable sustainable (international) cultural production and to establish solidarity-based forms of partnership? What are the most interesting examples -- from here, and there, and beyond?

Unlearning taboo
Peter Purg, 2023, artistic work

Abstract: Along the TTT 2023 programme, the performer selected and remixed fragments of both artworks (installations and performances) as well as discursive contributions in a way that corresponds to the principles of Bertolt Brecht’s “Lehrstücke,” the so-called learning or teaching pieces that deconstruct and expose the mechanisms of (power) relationships inherent to the (media/art) system in question. Provoking both rational and irrational perspectives, possibilities of (un)learning through acting, playing roles, adopting postures etc. was explored, dissolving (or at least questioning) the divide between authors and audiences, both invited (in Brechtian terms) to acquire attitudes rather than to consume an entertainment.
