Cluster-lensed supernovae with the Roman Space Telescope and Vera Rubin observatory
Mateusz Bronikowski, Tanja Petrushevska, Justin Pierel, 2022, published scientific conference contribution abstract

Abstract: I will present our current efforts to enable the use of strongly lensed supernovae behind galaxy clusters as powerful tools to tackle several open questions in astrophysics and cosmology. As a preparatory task, we are collecting all available gravitational telescopes into a database, and estimating the properties of all reported multiply-imaged galaxies behind clusters. We are building a tool that will enable accurate estimates of cluster-lensed supernova yields for a given survey. In addition, we are developing the methods to extract the cosmological parameters from cluster-lensed supernovae in the Rubin and Roman data.

Organometallic sodium carbide for heat transfer applications: A thermal lens study
Mohanachandran Nair Sindhu Swapna, Sankararaman S, 2020, original scientific article

Abstract: The search for excellent heat transfer fuids necessitates the development of novel nanofuids. The paper is the frst report revealing the potential of sodium carbide (Na2C2) nanoparticle for heat transfer and thermal shielding applications. For this, Na2C2 is prepared from the porous carbon matrix of Aloe vera leaves by hydrothermal method. The morphological changes on hydrothermal treatment and the thermal stability are analyzed by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy and Thermogravimetry. The X-ray difraction analysis reveals the formation of sodium carbide, which is confrmed by Fourier transform infrared, Ultraviolet–Visible–Near Infrared, and Raman spectroscopic analyses. The spectroscopic study of the sample synthesized shows indirect bandgap energy of 1.58 eV. The thermal difusivity of Na2C2 nanofuid, determined by the single-beam thermal lens technique, exhibited 87 % enhancement for the base fuid, suggesting its potential in heat transfer applications.

Pokristjanjevanje pri Prešernu in Bevku: Domoljubne prvine in vrednote v Prešernovi pesnitvi Krst pri Savici in Bevkovi povesti Umirajoči bog Triglav
Zoran Božič, 2017, published scientific conference contribution abstract

Abstract: Obe besedili sta nastali v prelomnih trenutkih slovenske zgodovine: Prešernova pesnitev v casu nemške politicne, gospodarske in kulturne nadvlade in porajanja zahtev po združeni Sloveniji, Bevkova povest pa v casu italijanskega fašizma in okupacije Primorske.

Colloquium Science and Faith (May, 1984)
Željko Oset, 2016, unpublished conference contribution

Abstract: The relations between the Yugoslavian communist regime and the Roman Catholic Church after World War were, to say at least, tense. After nominating – and later also electing – Aloysisus Stepinac, Archbishop of Zagreb, as cardinal in 1952/53, Yugoslavia broke off relations with Vatican as well as enforced measures to diminish the influence of the Roman Catholic Church in the public life. In Slovenia in the 1960s and early 1970s, changes wrought by the Roman Catholic Second Vatican Council and changes in the attitude of the Communist Party towards religion led to noticeable improvements in church-state relations. However, when in 1983 the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, upon receiving “unofficial” support of the leading politicians, accepted the initiative of Vatican to organize international colloquium Science and Faith, this was still a politically sensitive issue. Both sides had their own agenda: the Slovenian Communist Party was trying to assert the improvement of the democratic record, especially regarding religion liberties, Vatican, on the other hand, tried a new approach towards Eastern European Communist regimes, with Pope John Paul’s II aim to challenge undemocratic regimes, instead of sharp criticism Vatican offered collaboration. The colloquium, which took place in May 1984, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, was a great success for both parties in political sense.
