Title:Business support for small and medium enterprises by Cloud Computing
Abstract:Cloud computing is becoming a viable alternative for classic computing resources. If supported by a proper business model, it is visibly gaining marketing and technological momentum. In the master thesis the field of Cloud computing is presented together with its main characteristics. An overview of the main benefits and drawbacks from the point of view of a small or medium enterprise (SME) is given. Results of interviews carried out with selected SMEs are presented. Based on the obtained results, we formed several hypotheses and validated how they hold on the Slovenian IT market. For this purpose we designed an online questionnaire that measured the awareness of the benefits and uses of Cloud computing amongst SMEs. We analyzed the obtained questionnaire results and formulated a few important findings for the Slovenian IT market. We found out that the Slovenian SMEs are well aware of the advantages of the Cloud technologies, but they have not adopted them yet since they typically lack the trust needed for the adoption. Based on the results of the questionnaire, a Business model is proposed, using the Osterwalder Business Model Canvas method. The proposed Business Model includes all aspects that a company must observe when offering a new service to the market. The proposed business model has been used by an actual company for proposing the service of safety data backup to the Cloud.
