Abstract:Lepotni standardi so v družbi prisotni že od začetka človeštva, konstantno se spreminjajo in razvijajo. V njem se sprva posvetimo razlagi telesne dismorfije in anoreksije nervoze, nato še moji osebni izkušnji v spopadanju z njima in nazadnje izboljšavi zdravstvenega stanja.

Abstract:Beauty standards have been around since the beginning of mankind and they are constantly changing and evolving. Different cultures around the world have a diverse veriety of ideals, that we might see as unattractive. This of course affects the cultures art. We can also see and observe that in our society. By doing that we can also track the affect it has on our mental health and not only how we see ourselves but also others. The thesis is based on the previously mentioned social problems but in the context of animated films and cartoons. It’s beginning to be more apparent that we’re »under attack« from the corporations, whos tentacles of greed are reaching further and further. Their only goal is to keep us unhappy so we buy their products. That’s why I decided to write about it. The thesis first explains the meaning of body dysmorphia and anorexia nervosa, then it touches on my own struggles with them and how I got better. We need to expose this social problem and seek help. In the next chapter entitled “Beauty Standards in Animation” we look at the West and East animation as we start to form our own opinion if beauty standards do affect what we watch. By that we also present art therapy and how it can help us with our self esteem and mental well being. The thesis also follows the steps of making a short animated film Dysmorphia which is also the basis and motivation for the theoretical thesi. In conclusion we find out that we cannot escape the beauty standards and that we have to learn how to love ourselves and keep our feet firmly planted on the ground.
