War Damage in the Gorizia Region: on the Example of the Village of Miren Near Gorizia
V diplomskem delu predstavljam vojno škodo na Goriškem na primeru vasi Miren. Najprej predstavim Miren pred prvo svetovno vojno, nato na podlagi časopisnih člankov predstavim življenje v vasi v zaledju fronte in vse skupaj umestim v kontekst prve svetovne vojne.
In my thesis I present war damage in the Gorizia region on the example of the village of Miren. First, I describe Miren before the First World War. Then, based on newspaper articles, I present life in the village in the hinterland of the front, which I put in the context of World War I. In this context, I also describe the refugee colony in the Savinja Valley, which was established by relocating the shoemaking cooperative of Miren to the Vrbovec Castle near Mozirje, where the majority of the population of Miren moved to as refugees. Then I describe the term war damage, followed by the description of the reconstruction efforts implemented by both the Austro-Hungarian and Italian authorities, and the role of Maks Fabiani within those. In the next chapter I describe the war damage in Miren, where, in addition to newspaper articles, I also use valuations of war damage kept by the Gorizia State Archive. Here I present in more detail the war damage on the example of two families that hadfamily ties and lived together as refugees in Ljubljana. In the chapter where I describe civilian casualties as a special form of war damage, I have also included a list of deceased residents of Miren and a list of fallen, wounded, sick and captured soldiers from what was then the municipality of Miren. I conclude my thesis with the description of the provincial building regulations.
