Kako se duševne motnje prikazujejo v animacijah studiev Disney in Pixar

Opis: Čeprav se ne zavedamo, so duševne motnje zelo pogosto prisotne v človekovem življenju; z njimi se morda soočamo sami ali naši bližnji, prav tako pa so velikokrat upodobljene tudi skozi like, ki jih srečujemo v umetnosti, filmih in celo animiranih filmih, ki so ustvarjeni za mlajše občinstvo. Diplomsko delo raziskuje pojav duševnih motenj, prisotnih v Disneyjevih in Pixarjevih animiranih filmih. Bolj natančno preiskuje animirane like in kako njihovo vedenje, govor ter telesna govorica prikazujejo različne znake in simptome duševnih motenj. Prvi del diplomskega dela se posveča klasifikaciji in razlagi posameznih duševnih motenj. Namen je bralcu predstaviti in obrazložiti pojme, simptome in bolezni, da mu bo lažje razumljiv drugi del diplomskega dela ter da razume obseg duševnih motenj. Temu sledi analiza likov iz animiranih filmov Vrvež v moji glavi (Inside out, 2015), Iskanje malega Nema (Finding Nemo, 2003), Alica v čudežni deželi (Alice in Wonderland, 1951), Mnoge dogodivščine medvedka Puja (The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, 1977), Ledeno kraljestvo (Frozen, 2013), Mala morska deklica (The Little Mermaid, 1989), Sneguljčica in sedem palčkov (Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, 1937) in Zlatolaska (Tangled, 2010). Praktični del diplomskega dela Pustite mi dihati je 2D-računalniška animacija, ki se posveča občutkom in počutju osebe z duševnimi motnjami. Skozi abstraktno animacijo si lahko gledalec sam razlaga pomen ter občutke depresije in tesnobe.

Selenium affects mercury ligand environment in terrestrial food chain – a XAS study

Opis: Selenium (Se) supplied in inorganic form (as selenate or selenite) was shown to decrease mercury (Hg) toxicity by forming HgSe in soils as well as in animal and human tissues, while for plants there is no evidence of Hg-Se complexation. Although Se in not an essential element for plants it was shown to counteract various abiotic stresses when applied at trace amounts. The aim of this work was therefore to study physiological responses and Hg speciation in plant/ fungi-animal food chain. Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and porcini mushrooms (Boletus edulis) were taken as model plant/ fungal species and Spanish slug (Arion vulgaris) as a model animal species. The plants, fed to the slugs, were grown in HgCl2 contaminated soil or soil from the vicinity of Hg mine in Idrija with traces of HgS and methyl Hg). Physiological parameters of plants and slugs were monitored during the experiment. At the end the biological material was frozen in LN2 and freeze dried. Hg L3-edge (12284 eV) XANES and EXAFS spectra of the biological samples and standards were measured at liquid helium temperature in fluorescence detection mode at the BM30B beamline of the ESRF synchrotron in Grenoble, using the 30-segment germanium solid state detector [1]. The results showed that addition of Se alleviated Hg toxic effects in the food chain started at HgCl2-contaminated soil, while for the soil from Idrija, containing low amounts of highly toxic methyl-Hg, the beneficial effect was less prominent [2]. No Hg-Se complexes were detected in plants, while in mushrooms and slugs the complexation was confirmed. Addition of Se to the plants, however, changed Hg ligand environment in plant tissues from sulphur to nitrogen ligands. Hg and Se both target the -SH functional groups in the plant tissues, so toxic effects of Hg are rather enhanced than alleviated by addition of Se. Nevertheless, the addition of Se to the plants is beneficial for higher trophic levels and lowers Hg toxicity for the primary consumers, the slugs.

Nutritional quality and safety of the spirulina dietary supplements sold on the Slovenian market

Opis: The microalgae Spirulina may be a popular dietary supplement rich in essential nutrients and vitamins, but oversight of the supplement industry, in general, remains limited, and increasing incidents of adulteration, misbranding, and undeclared ingredients together with misleading claims create potential risks. In response, this study characterized the elemental, amino acid and fatty acid content of commercially available Spirulina supplements in Slovenia using EDXRF, ICP-MS and GC-MS and compared the results with their nutritional declaration. The gathered data confirm that Spirulina supplements are a good source of calcium (0.15 to 29.5% of RDA), phosphorous (3.36–26.7% of RDA), potassium (0.5 to 7.69% of RDA) and selenium (0.01 to 38.6% of RDA) when consumed within recommended amounts. However, although iron contents were relatively high (7.64 to 316% of RDA), the actual bioavailability of iron was much lower since it was mainly present as the ferric cation. This study also confirms that pure Spirulina supplements are a good source of essential and non-essential amino acids, and !-6 but not !-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. The presence of additives resulted in significant variation in nutrient content and, in some instances, lower product quality. Moreover, a high proportion (86.7%) of inappropriate declarations regarding the elemental content was observed. Overall, the study conclusions underline the need for a stricter control system for Spirulina-based supplements.

Izražanje naklonskih pomenov z glagolom imeti

Opis: Obravnava naklonskih izrazov v slovenščini običajno zajema najbolj značilne naklonske glagole in izraze, ki izražajo naklonske pomene (ne)zmožnosti, obveznosti in dovoljenja, in sicer glagola morati in moči, naklonsko brezosebno zgradbo treba je, naklonski izraz lahko, glagol smeti, razgled po sodobnejši rabi slovenščine pa nakazuje tudi naklonsko rabo glagola rabiti v pomenu izražanja obveznosti. Manj pozornosti se namenja načinu izražanja naklonskosti, ki je bolj tipičen za neknjižno slovenščino: to je izražanje naklonskega pomena obveznosti z glagolom imeti, (1). (1) ... za ta dan so večinoma naredili, kar imajo narediti v jesenskih dneh, ... (Gigafida) Prispevek se zato osredotoča prav na naklonsko rabo glagola imeti, k temu pa dodajamo še bolj pogovorno različico izražanja naklonskosti z glagolom imeti, ki mu sledi predlog za, temu pa nedoločnik, (2). (2) Gredo pač domov, ko naredijo tisto, kar so imeli za narediti ta dan. (Gigafida) V prispevku predstavljamo in med seboj primerjamo oba načina izražanja naklonskih pomenov ter ponazarjamo skladenjske, pomenske in delno tudi pragmatične razlike rabe obeh struktur v okviru izražanja naklonskih pomenov. Na podlagi podatkov iz korpusa Gigafida v prispevku obravnavamo naklonske pomene z glagolom imeti v slovenščini s stališča jezikoslovne teorije, ki temelji na analizi modalnih pomenov v Nuyts (2014) in ki jo predstavljamo v prvem delu razprave. Naklonski pomeni so v omenjeni analizi razvrščeni v tri skupine: dinamično, deontično in epistemično naklonskost. Najožja opredelitev dinamične naklonskosti je, da gre za pripisovanje zmožnosti ali sposobnosti prvemu delovalniku (navadno vršilcu dejanja), da izvede dejanje ali uresniči stanje (Gomboc 2018). Deontično naklonskost lahko definiramo kot kazalnik stopnje sprejemljivosti zunajjezikovne situacije, ki jo navadno, vendar ne nujno vedno, izraža tvorec besedila (prav tam). Izražanje epistemične naklonskosti pa je prisotno takrat, ko tvorec ocenjuje možnost, da se bo ubesedeno dejanje uresničilo v dejanskosti (prav tam). Podatki kažejo, da izražanje z glagolom imeti v slovenščini lahko izraža vse tri tipe naklonskosti. Ob tem ugotavljamo, da se izražanje naklonskih pomenov z glagolom imeti z nedoločnikom v slovenščini rabi izključno z glagoli v dovršni obliki, (3) in (4), medtem ko se v zgradbi s predlogom za uporabljata tako nedoločnik v dovršni kot nedovršni obliki, (5) in (6). (3) To ti imam povedati. (4) ??Z njim se imam pogovoriti. (5) Za danes sem opravila vse, kar sem imela za opraviti. (6) »Veliko imam za delati,« mi je ves čas razlagal in me prosil za razumevanje. Prispevek prinaša spoznanja o doslej slabo opisanem načinu izražanja naklonskosti z glagolom imeti v slovenščini. Namen prispevka je predstaviti skladenjske, pomenske in delno tudi pragmatične značilnosti rabe obeh struktur z glagolom imeti v okviru izražanja naklonskih pomenov.

Identification of environmental stress conditions by comparative analysis of peroxidase activity in betulla pendula and pinus sp. : Group project report

Opis: The study investigated the possibility of developing a biomarker to evaluate the stress level in trees. The analyses have been performed on tree samples appertaining to two different tree species and collected at two locations in Slovenia. The presence and the activity of the proteins – peroxidases was measured by the qualitative method of the agarose gel electrophoresis and the quantitative method of spectrometry. It was found out that by measuring the presence of the biomarkers and pigments in the tree samples we can determine the stress levels and thus the health status of trees.

1,8-dihydroxy naphthalene (DHN) - melanin confers tolerance to cadmium in isolates of melanised dark septate endophytes

Opis: The contribution of 1,8-dihydroxy naphthalene (DHN) melanin to cadmium (Cd) tolerance in two dark septate endophytes (DSE) of the genus Cadophora with different melanin content was investigated in vitro. The DSE isolate Cad#148 with higher melanin content showed higher tolerance to Cd than the less melanised Cad#149. Melanin synthesis was significantly reduced by Cd in both isolates with uninhibited melanin synthesis, in a dosedependent manner. Inhibition of melanin synthesis by tricyclazole reduced the relative growth of Cad#148 exposed to Cd and did not affect Cad#149. Cd accumulation was not altered by tricyclazole in the two isolates, but it increased catalase and reduced glutathione reductase activity in more melanised Cad#148, indicating higher stress levels. In contrast, in Cad#149 the enzyme activity was less affected by tricyclazole, indicating a more pronounced role of melanin-independent Cd tolerance mechanisms. Cd ligand environment in fungal mycelia was analysed by extended EXAFS (X-ray absorption fine structure). It revealed that Cd was mainly bound to O- and S-ligands, including hydroxyl, carboxyl, phosphate and thiol groups. A similar proportion of S- and Oligands (~35% and ~65%) were found in both isolates with uninhibited melanin synthesis. Among O-ligands two types with Cd-O-C- and Cd-O-P- coordination were identified. Tricyclazole altered Cd-O- ligand environment in both fungal isolates by reducing the proportion of Cd-O-C- and increasing the proportion of Cd-O-P coordination. DHN-melanin, among other tolerance mechanisms, significantly contributes to Cd tolerance in more melanised DSE fungi by immobilising Cd to hydroxyl groups and maintaining the integrity of the fungal cell wall.
