Search for UHE neutrinos – in coincidence with LIGO GW150914 event – with the Pierre Auger Observatory
Lili Yang, 2016, objavljeni povzetek znanstvenega prispevka na konferenci

Opis: The first gravitational wave transient GW150914 was observed by Advanced LIGO on September 14th, 2015 at 09:50:45 Universal Time. In addition to follow-up electromagnetic observations, the detection of neutrinos will probe deeply and more on the nature of astrophysical sources, especially in the ultra-high energy regime. Neutrinos in the EeV energy range were searched in data collected at the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory within ± 500 s and 1 day after the GW150914 event. No neutrino candidates were found. Based on this non-observation, we derive the first and only one neutrino fluence upper limit at EeV energies for this event at 90% CL, and report constraints on existence of accretion disk around mergers.

GRB neutrino limits from Auger
Lili Yang, prispevek na konferenci brez natisa

Opis: In this talk, I will talk about the searching for UHE neutrinos at Pierre Auger Observatory (PAO). Since no neutrino candidates is found so far. We have set the most stringent limits to point-like sources and Gamma-Ray-Bursts (GRB) of UHEν. I will also update the process of neutrino search results for PAO.

Multi-messenger study of the Fermi Bubbles
Lili Yang, predavanje na tuji univerzi

Opis: The Fermi Bubbles have been imaged in sub-TeV gamma rays at Fermi-LAT, and, if their origin is hadronic, they might have been seen with low statistics in ∼0.1−1 PeV neutrinos at IceCube. I discuss the detectability of these objects at the new High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC). HAWC will view the North Bubble for ∼2−3 hours a day, and will map its spectrum at 0.1-100 TeV. For the hard primary proton spectrum required to explain five events at IceCube, a high significance detection at HAWC will be achieved in less than 30 days. I will discuss how the combination of results at HAWC and IceCube will substantiate the hadronic model, or constrain its spectral parameters and how sensitive Cherenkov Telescope Array(CTA) is to the bubbles.

Search for a correlation between the UHECRs measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array and the neutrino candidate events from IceCube

Opis: We have conducted three searches for correlations between ultra-high energy cosmic rays detected by the Telescope Array and the Pierre Auger Observatory, and high-energy neutrino candidate events from IceCube. Two cross-correlation analyses with UHECRs are done: one with 39 cascades from the IceCube ‘high-energy starting events’ sample and the other with 16 high-energy ‘track events’. The angular separation between the arrival directions of neutrinos and UHECRs is scanned over. The same events are also used in a separate search using a maximum likelihood approach, after the neutrino arrival directions are stacked. To estimate the significance we assume UHECR magnetic deflections to be inversely proportional to their energy, with values 3◦, 6◦ and 9◦ at 100 EeV to allow for the uncertainties on the magnetic field strength and UHECR charge. A similar analysis is performed on stacked UHECR arrival directions and the IceCube sample of through-going muon track events which were optimized for neutrino point- source searches.

Update of the neutrino and photon limits from the Pierre Auger Observatory
Carla Bleve, Andrej Filipčič, Gašper Kukec Mezek, Ahmed Saleh, Samo Stanič, Marta Trini, Darko Veberič, Serguei Vorobiov, Lili Yang, Danilo Zavrtanik, Marko Zavrtanik, 2015, objavljeni znanstveni prispevek na konferenci

Opis: Ultra-high energy neutrinos and photons, with energies above 1 EeV and 10 EeV respectively, can be detected with the Surface Detector array (SD) of the Pierre Auger Observatory. Downward- going neutrinos of all flavours interacting in the atmosphere at zenith angles θ > 60◦, upward-going tau neutrinos (“Earth- skimming”), as well as photons in the zenith range 30◦ − 60◦ can be identified through the broad time-structure of the signals expected to be induced in the SD stations. An additional signature for photon-induced air showers is the steeper lateral distribution of secondary particles at ground with respect to the nucleonic showers. Stringent limits are set to the diffuse flux of ultra-high energy (UHE) neutrinos and photons, using data collected between 2004 and mid-2013, under the hypothesis of an E[sup]−2 spectrum for signal primaries.
