Italian Humanist Photography from Fascism to the Cold War
Martina Caruso, znanstvena monografija

Opis: Spanning four decades of radical political and social change in Italy, this interdisciplinary study explores photography’s relationship with Italian painting, film, literature, anthropological research and international photography. Evocative and powerful, Italian social documentary photography from the 1930s to the 1960s is a rich source of cultural history, reflecting a time of dramatic change. This book shows, through a wide range of images (some published for the first time) that to fully understand the photography of this period we must take a more expansive view than scholars have applied to date, considering issues of propaganda, aesthetics, religion, national identity and international influences. By setting Italian photography against a backdrop of social documentary and giving it a distinctive place in the global history of photography, this exciting volume of original research is of interest to art historians and scholars of Italian and visual culture studies.

Uncovering the life of a transgender person in Pakistan : diploma thesis
Reeba Sufyan, 2021, diplomsko delo

Opis: Documentary photography is the narrative based on facts and records of events in a report format. Although racial injustice and biased differences were common initially, the underlying objectivity of this thesis involves the main aim to display the utmost reality. It is a way to report stark realities that come into perspective with images of persons, places, or events. On the other hand, it is a form of representation from the photographer’s point of view. Although, there is no denying that a picture represents a thousand words and displays several perspectives. As a source of revealing the importance of documentary photography in the Indian subcontinent, this thesis will help to expose the sore point of a country that belittles a community of transgender persons. This photography documentary is showing the cruelty that is confronted by transgender persons in Pakistan. Based upon the timeline of nine months, the comparative study of two transgender persons reflects the complexity of their survival. My photography documentary has captured and frozen the instances from the daily existence of transgender persons, focusing on their lifestyle, living conditions, community environment, and personal life. Transgender identity, by birth or by choice, is a chilling fact marginalizing a person to a community where existence is difficult.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE NARRATIVE : How stories are told through the photographic medium
Tiziano Biagi, 2020, diplomsko delo

Opis: Some of the earliest pieces of evidence in art history show how people told stories with pictures and, throughout the centuries, this habit developed with the introduction of new techniques, themes, and tools. Given the value of authenticity that has often been ascribed to photography since its invention, this medium had to overcome criticism before its value as fine art was recognised. This diploma thesis analyses in which ways photography is capable to carry narratives. It also analyses the roles that the viewer, the photographer, and the image itself play in this process. To do so, this work examines notable theories on the topic, the intentions behind the photographers’ creative process, and the visual components of images. By focusing both on ideas introduced by scholars and on photographic works – including my diploma project Dune Mosse – the thesis underlines the importance that social and cultural contexts have in the narration of a story.

Under All the Hats of Quality —- from a round table discussion among teachers, students, quality experts, policy makers…
Peter Purg, Potokar Urša B., 2016, znanstveni film, znanstvena zvočna ali video publikacija

Opis: This 54-minute full feature documentary and research film features, in a unique intermedia manner, the findings of a round table, conceived and moderated by dr. pETER Purg; at the "Quality of University Teaching and Learning" international conference, Brdo pri Kranju in April 6, 2016. This video (directed and shot by P. Purg, and edited by Urša .B. Potokar) presents the issues emerging from a round table discussion among teachers, students, quality experts and policy makers from different disciplines and countries. As a "mixed media publication", It links in with an academic article (to be) published after the conference by P. Purg, discussing the selected utterances as evidence of emerging topics in academic quality, set against a broader theoretical and policy-related argumentation. Such a mixed-media multi-layered interplay of theory and practice, between text and video, may prove that an open discussion, paired with (audio-visual) self-reflection can both articulate and confirm some crucial commitments for increasing the quality of teaching and learning. The round-table participants mostly agreed academic quality is dependent on teaching and learning quality, while academic practice is moving towards student autonomy and agency. For that both the national and the institutional legislative framework should provide a suitable scaffolding, facilitating better progression through education stages and sustainable student-to-teacher ratios. Good contact with the employment sector remains a key challenge that affects education quality, confirming the need for a wider participation of all higher education stakeholders.
