Whose memory? : new museums and (political) narratives in Slovenia
Kaja Širok, 2023, drugi znanstveni članki

Opis: In March 2021, on the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the independent state of Slovenia, Janez Janša’s government established the (national) Museum of Slovenian Independence. The official reason for its creation was due to criticism from a number right-wing politicians who argued that Slovenian museums neglected the topic of national independence and failed to cultivate the values on which the new country was founded. This was strongly opposed by the historical profession, as at least three Slovenian museums were already dealing with the subject of the twentieth century and created several exhibitions on the subject of independence.

Speakers' errors in the use of the 'count form' in Bulgarian numeral phrases : possible sources of the distance effect
Penka Stateva, Julie Franck, Arthur Stepanov, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: In Bulgarian, numerals such as pet ('five') assign a special 'count form' feature to the noun: this assignment takes place across any number of intervening modifier phrases, thus forming a long-distance syntactic dependency. In colloquial speech, speakers often erroneously substitute the count form for regular plurals. Previous corpus and psycholinguistic research established that the ratio of such errors correlates with the distance between numeral and the noun in terms of the number of intervening items. In this note we briefly review this line of inquiry and outline two possible explanations for the distance effect: (i) the cost of maintaining and/or retrieving the numeral in the working memory, and (ii) cumulative activation of the plural markings on the intervening adjectivals.

Narratives need not end well; nor say it all
Sara Andreetta, Davide Spalla, Alessandro Treves, 2023, drugi znanstveni članki

Opis: To fully embrace situations of radical uncertainty, we argue that the theory should abandon the requirements that narratives, in general, must lead to affective evaluation, and that they have to explain (and potentially simulate) all or even the bulk of the current decisional context. Evidence from studies of incidental learning show that narrative schemata can bias decisions while remaining fragmentary, insufficient for prediction, and devoid of utility values.

Minority Literature in the Majority Language: a New Paradigm? The Case of the
Ana Toroš, 2021, izvirni znanstveni članek

Opis: The present paper addresses the issue of bilingual literature and studies the relations between the majority language and the minority language within the literature of minority authors. By using the close reading method we examined the contemporary phenomenon of producing literature in the majority (Italian) language by the authors of the Slovenian origin living in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Italy. In this regard we found out that the linguistic shift from the minority (Slovenian) language to the majority (Italian) language does not inevitably lead to the breakage of the links with the collective memory of the Slovenian minority community in Italy and thus does not induce a change in the manner of the literalization of the living space of the Slovenian minority in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
