Wikisource platforma kao biblioteka slovenačke književnosti i kulture
Darko Ilin, 2023, original scientific article

Number mismatch effect and processing cataphora in a pro-drop language : the case of Slovenian
Matic Pavlič, Arthur Stepanov, 2023, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph

Abstract: Cataphora (also known as backward anaphora) is a type of pronominals that prcede their antecedents elinearly. Previous research on processing cataphora has explored the idea that cataphoric pronouns trigger a forward-looking active search for an antecedent to establish a coreference relation similar to a filler-gap dependency between a fronted wh-phrase and its base-generated syntactic position (Cowart & Cairns 1987). Van Gompel & Liversedge (2003) have shown that in an active search, the parser establishes a cataphoric coreference before considering pronominal phi-features. This results in a gender mismatch effect: sentences with incongruent incoming NP antecedents were more difficult to read than their congruent counterparts, as evidenced by slower reading times and eye movement regressions. In this paper, we report the results of a self-paced reading experiment in which the active search hypothesis is further tested by examining online cataphora resolution with respect to the number feature in Slovenian, a pro-drop language with a rich nominal and verbal morphology.

Update on the offline framework for AugerPrime and production of reference simulation libraries using the VO Auger grid resources
Eva Santos, Andrej Filipčič, Jon Paul Lundquist, Shima Ujjani Shivashankara, Samo Stanič, Serguei Vorobiov, Danilo Zavrtanik, Marko Zavrtanik, 2023, published scientific conference contribution

Abstract: Taking data stably since 2004, the Pierre Auger Observatory has published numerous results regarding the properties of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays with unprecedented statistics. However, questions about their origin and mass composition remain unanswered, motivating us to build AugerPrime, a major upgrade of our surface detector array with improved electronics and new detectors. The upgrade is swiftly approaching its completion. Phase II of the Pierre Auger Observatory has begun, which called for an update of the Offline software Framework and modules to handle the additional detectors and the new electronics. Thanks to its modular structure, Offline has proved flexible enough to accommodate all the changes required to handle AugerPrime data reconstruction and event simulation. Additionally, new reference libraries of shower and detector simulations, including dedicated libraries envisaging the searches for neutral particles, such as ultra-high-energy photons and neutrinos, profiting from the new AugerPrime detectors with the upgraded electronics, are in the pipeline. In this contribution, we report on the current status and prospects for the Auger Off line Framework and the production of reference Monte Carlo libraries for AugerPrime.

Uncovering the nature of transient and metastable nonequilibrium phases in 1T − ▫$TaS_2$ ▫

Abstract: Complex systems are characterized by strong coupling between different microscopic degrees of freedom. Photoexcitation of such materials can drive them into new transient and metastable hidden phases that may not have any counterparts in equilibrium. By exploiting femtosecond time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we probe the photoinduced transient phase and the recovery dynamics of the ground state in a complex material: the charge density wave (CDW)–Mott insulator 1T-TaS2. We reveal striking similarities between the band structures of the transient phase and the (equilibrium) structurally undistorted metallic phase, with evidence for the coexistence of the low-temperature Mott insulating phase and high-temperature metallic phase. Following the transient phase, we find that the restorations of the Mott and CDW orders begin around the same time. This highlights that the Mott transition is tied to the CDW structural distortion, although earlier studies have shown that the collapses of Mott and CDW phases are decoupled from each other. Interestingly, as the suppressed order starts to recover, a metastable phase emerges before the material recovers to the ground state. Our results demonstrate that it is the CDW lattice order that drives the material into this metastable phase, which is indeed a commensurate CDW–Mott insulating phase but with a smaller CDW amplitude. Moreover, we find that the metastable phase emerges only under strong photoexcitation (∼3.6 mJ/cm2) and has no evidence when the photoexcitation strength is weak (∼1.2 mJ/cm2).
