5323. Asymmetric WIMP Dark Matter in the presence of DM/anti-DM OscillationsGabrijela Zaharijas, 2012, objavljeni povzetek znanstvenega prispevka na konferenci Opis: The class of ‘Asymmetric Dark Matter’ scenarios relies on the existence of a primordial
particle/anti-particle asymmetry in the dark sector related to the baryon asymmetry as a
way to address the observed similarity between the baryonic and dark matter energy densities
today. Focusing on this framework we calculate the evolution of the dark matter relic
abundance in the presence of particle/anti-particle oscillations. We show how oscillations reopen
the parameter space of asymmetric dark matter models, in particular in the direction of
allowing large (WIMP-scale) DM masses. Finally, we constrain the parameter space in this
framework by applying up-to-date bounds from indirect detection signals on annihilating DM. Ključne besede: dark matter, early universe Objavljeno v RUNG: 23.03.2016; Ogledov: 4576; Prenosov: 0 Gradivo ima več datotek! Več... |
5324. Empirical Research: How to Improve Reception of Classical PoetryZoran Božič, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: An empirical study of understanding The Baptism at the Savica showed that Slovenian high school students had notable difficulties in decoding the basic meanings of Prešeren’s poem. In literature, didactics offer three methods of facilitating
reception of complex classical poetry: linguistic modernisation, addition of notes,and transmission into prose. Due to the cult status of Prešeren’s poetry, modernizations can only be limited, while commenting hinders a spontaneous reading experience;
as a result, only prosification entirely solves the problems of pronounced archaization, inverted word order and abundant metaphors in Prešeren’s lines. This was confirmed by an empirical study in which high school students, who read the prozification together with the verses from The Baptism at the Savica, attested
a comprehension which was twice as good as comprehension of students who only read the poetry. Ključne besede: empirical research, reception, France Prešeren, The Baptism at the

5329. Can agreement with the linearly closest conjunct be derived in syntax proper?Franc Marušič, Jana Willer Gold, Boban Arsenijević, Andrew Nevins, 2015, objavljeni povzetek znanstvenega prispevka na konferenci Opis: The recent literature on South Slavic conjunct agreement can be roughly divided into two camps: those trying to model the cases of agreement with linearly closest conjunct, as in the Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS) example in (1) (taken from Bošković 2009), within syntax (Bošković 2009, Puškar & Murphy 2015 a.o.) and those claiming this agreement is a result of a postsyntactic operation that occurs after linearization and hence is sensitive to the linear distance between two syntactic elements (among these, Bhatt & Walkow 2013, Marušič et al 2015). We present a strong argument against strictly syntactic theories of conjunct agreement that leverages experimental work on BCS conjunct agreement and builds on data in Aljović & Begović (2015). 5330. Beyond Knower Levels: Early partial knowledge of number wordsKatie Wagner, Franc Marušič, Vesna Plesničar, Tina Razboršek, Jessica Sullivan, Rok Žaucer, David Barner, 2015, objavljeni povzetek znanstvenega prispevka na konferenci Opis: Although both syntax and number words can indicate quantity, only numbers can specify large exact quantities. Do children use
syntax to bootstrap preliminary meanings of number words before mastering precise meanings? We compared errors across
languages on a Give-a-Number task in non-knowers (who have adult meanings for no number words) and subset knowers (who
have adult meanings for fewer than five number words). Participants included learners of English, Spanish, French, and two
dialects of Slovenian. One dialect, Central Slovenian, has rich number morphology including singular, dual, small plural, and large
plural (for 5+). In all languages, subset knowers and some non-knowers demonstrated better than random responding for at least 2
number words beyond the largest number word they comprehended precisely. Additionally, Central Slovenian-learning non- and 1-
knowers responded more accurately to requests for higher numbers than their counterparts in other languages, suggesting that rich
plural marking may bootstrap number word meanings. Ključne besede: knower level, grammatical number, acquisition of number words, bootstrapping Objavljeno v RUNG: 21.03.2016; Ogledov: 4883; Prenosov: 0 Gradivo ima več datotek! Več... |
