Study of water adsorption on EDTA dealuminated zeolite Y

Opis: Zeolite Y was synthesized and modified with EDTA dealumination procedure. The modified zeolites were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, chemical analysis and water adsorption measurements. We demonstrated that dealumination with bulk organic acid such as EDTA is able to reduce the original intense water affinity. Furthermore, it was found that dealumination with EDTA, in contrast with steaming and HCl dealumination, provides fully controllable, predictable and secure process of Al removal from the zeolites’ frameworks. The shift of the adsorption isotherm in the low partial pressure range represents an interesting result for adsorption-based applications.

Upodobitev ženskega lika v modni fotografiji

Opis: Magistrsko delo Upodobitev ženskega lika v modni fotografiji obravnava zgodovino razvoja modne fotografije in njenega načina upodobitve ženskega lika. Naloga je razdeljena na dva dela, ki iz različnih vidikov razlagata žensko vlogo v modni fotografiji. Prvi del se opira na izbrane modne fotografije in preko njih razlaga razvoj modne fotografije od njenega začetka do danes. Dotika se tudi družbene situacije posameznega obdobja, ki je ključna za razumevanje vsebine modne fotografije. Drugi del se posveča teoretični razlagi ključnih dejavnikov, ki tvorijo modno fotografijo in se dotika učinka modne fotografije na gledalca, vpliva feminizma na modno fotografijo, modernizacije družbe, teorije spola in razvoja idealne ženske podobe. Za temo raziskovanja sem se odločil zaradi želje po poglobljenem razumevanju vpliva fotografije na družbo in njene izpovedne vrednosti. Magistrsko delo se osredotoča na upodobitev ženskega lika tako, da se posveča predvsem interpretaciji fotografij, pristopa ter stila njihovih avtorjev in opredeljevanju razlike med realno in idealno žensko podobo. Po teoretičnem delu sledi opis praktičnega dela magistrske naloge, fotografske serije z naslovom Digitalizacija. Ta obravnava interpretacijo človeškega vstopanja v digitalni svet in prikazuje variacijo njegovega človeškega doživljanja. V zaključku bom pojasnil svoj vidik na razvoj modne fotografije in njen spremenjen vpliv na družbo ter opredelil razlike med resnično in upodobljeno žensko podobo.

New Insights into Manganese Local Environment in MnS-1Nanocrystals

Opis: Manganese plays an important role in redox catalysis using zeolites as inorganic support materials, but the formation of the preferred redox manganese species (framework or extraframework) is still not well understood. Herein, the influence of the amount of manganese together with conventional and microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis paths on the formation of manganese species within the zeolite silicalite-1 (S-1) with MFI structure was investigated. It was found out that both synthesis procedures led to the formation of framework and extraframework manganese species, but in different molar ratios. However, the conventional synthesis procedure with all Mn/Si molar ratios generates more framework Mn in comparison to the microwave procedure. Additionally, the diminution of the zeolite crystals to nanoscale from 100 to 200 nm was achieved via the conventional procedure for the first time. UV–vis, Raman, and X-ray absorption spectroscopic analyses revealed different local environments of manganese: Mn3+ incorporated into the silicalite-1 framework as “framework manganese” and Mn2+/3+ present as “extraframework manganese” (Mn2O3, Mn3O4). TEM reveals the presence of Mn3O4 nanorods. Both framework manganese and extraframework manganese exhibit good catalytic activity for styrene epoxidation. Catalytic results suggest that, in oxidation reactions of hydrocarbons, framework manganese is more active at lower Mn contents (Mn/Si < 0.015), whereas extraframework manganese is more active at higher loadings (Mn/Si > 0.015).

Biogas production from brewery spent grain as a mono-substrate in a two-stage process composed of solid-state anaerobic digestion and granular biomass reactors

Opis: Anaerobic digestion of brewery spent grain as a mono-substrate was studied. Brewery spent grain is a substrate consisting largely of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, which are difficult to degrade anaerobically, mostly due to the presence of degradation products, such as phenolic compounds, which cause process inhibition. Therefore, a two-stage system was used for anaerobic digestion. Anaerobic digestion was phase separated in a solid-state anaerobic digestion reactor, where microbiological hydrolysis and acidogenesis occurred and in a granular biomass reactor where mostly methanogenesis was performed. The overall process exhibited total solids degradation efficiency between 75.9 and 83.0 %. Average specific biogas production was 414±32 L/kg, whereas biomethane production was 224±34 L/kg of added total solids. Granular biomass after adaptation exhibited stable operation at substrate C/N ratios in range 0.16 – 4.68. p-cresol was present in concentrations up to 45 mg/L and during the process was successfully degraded by granular biomass. The excellent adaptability of granular biomass was confirmed by 68.2 % shift in bacterial and a 31.8 % shift in archaeal community structure in a granular biomass reactor. The structure of the bacterial community from granular biomass reactor and solid-state anaerobic digestion reactor remained 79.4 % similar at the end of the experiment, whereas archaeal community was only 31.6 % similar. The process exhibited stable operation for 198 days, which shows that brewery spent grain can be successfully anaerobically digested and used for biogas production.

Črni Labod, Darren Aronofsky : Kariera

Opis: Diplomsko delo obravnava film Črni labod/Black Swan. Razčlenjuje mišljenje in delovanje glavnega filmskega lika in posledično splošno razumevanje človeka samega. Skozi film Črni labod sem iskal razlage o razvoju človekove osebnosti in jih s pomočjo teorij Sigmunda Freuda in Abrahama Maslowa razčlenil v razlagah filma po sekvencah. Vpliv družbe na posameznika je pomemben motiv v filmu, ki ga v nalogi razširjam s slogovnim zgodovinskim obdobjem dadaizma in predvsem nadrealizma in z razčlenjevanjem motiva laboda v književnosti in filmu. S tem pa poskušam pojasniti polje nezavednega, ki ga še vedno označujejo za bistveni del razlage osebnosti. Človeška osebnost se oblikuje predvsem v obdobju odraščanja, zato sem se v nalogi najbolj posvetil temi razvoja iz otroka v odraslo osebo, ki jo razvija tudi režiser filma Darren Aronofsky.

Opis: Anaerobic digestion of brewery spent grain as a mono-substrate was studied. Anaerobic digestion was phase separated in solid state anaerobic digestion reactor, where mostly microbiological hydrolysis and acidogenesis and granular biomass reactor where mostly methanogenesis was performed. The overall process exhibited total solids degradation efficiency between 73.6 and 80.4%. Average specific biogas production was 424±36 L/kg, whereas biomethane production was 230±34 L/kg of brewery spent grain total solids. Granular biomass after adaptation exhibited stabile operation at C-N ratios as low as 0.2 – 0.3, which is rare in anaerobic digestion. P-cresol as a degradation product was present in concentrations up to 45 mg/L and during the process successfully degraded. The excellent adaptability of the granular biomass is confirmed by 67% shift in bacterial and a 32% shift in archaeal community structure in granular biomass reactor after 198 days of successful operation.
