Live, lust, love : semantic fields of intimacy in Slovenian and Serbian fin de siècle proseLucija Mandić, Darko Ilin, 2024, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The present paper analyses emotional and physical intimacy in Slovenian and Serbian prose from the late 19th to the early 20th century using word embeddings. Given the complexity of defining intimacy, we consider a broad range of relationships depicted in fin de siècle literature. The Word2Vec language
model identifies eight semantic fields encompassing platonic and sexual relationships, including violence, since it seems to be semantically closely related to sexuality in the analysed literary works. Through a comparative study, notable differences between Serbian and Slovenian prose are established. Additionally, the article examines how these semantic fields manifest in works by male and female authors, providing insights into societal perceptions of intimacy and gender socialization.

2. A for Aurore and ambiguity : the reception of George Sand in the Slovenian literary fieldKatja Mihurko, Primož Mlačnik, 2023, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: The first part of the title of the article is borrowed from the afterword A for Aurora, A for Autobiography in the Slovenian translation of George Sand’s seminal work Histoire de ma vie, published by the feminist publishing house Delta, marking the bicentenary of French writer’s birth. 1 Analyzing the discourse on George Sand in the Slovenian literary field, we have observed a unique ambiguity compared to the discourse on other canonized authors and their Slovene reception. We argue that George Sand is a site of ambiguous discourse. Departing from the approaches of the renowned American historian Joan Wallach Scott, herself inspired by the Foucauldian epistemology, we are interested in how and why this discourse came into being, how the representations of George Sand were discursively established, and what contradictions are inherent in this debate.

4. From Minor Literature to Neoliberal Noir: The Detective Novels of Sergej VercPrimož Mlačnik, 2022, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: In this article, we analyze the politics of
representation in the detective tetralogy (1991-2009) of the late Slovenian and Triestinian writer
Sergej Verč. Addressing several aspects of Verč’s
primary literary semiotic device of schizophrenia,
we trace a simultaneous literary and chronological
shift from minor literature to neoliberal noir.
We expose the fundamental representational
ambiguity by analyzing the detective triad
(murder-victim-criminal), the fetishization of
detective clues, the erotization of detection, and
the underlying binary oppositions. Verč’s detective
novels critique the Slovenian capitalist transition
but also reproduce culturally conservative
representations of gender, sexuality, and family.
