Outreach, education, and communication initiatives at the Pierre Auger Observatory
V. Scherini, Andrej Filipčič, Jon Paul Lundquist, Shima Ujjani Shivashankara, Samo Stanič, Serguei Vorobiov, Danilo Zavrtanik, Marko Zavrtanik, 2024, published scientific conference contribution

Abstract: The Pierre Auger Collaboration has a long tradition of outreach that engages a wide range of people of all ages worldwide. In Malargüe, Argentina, the heart of the Pierre Auger Observatory, the Visitor Center offers a permanent interactive exhibition. Every November Collaboration meeting, we organize a Science Fair where Argentinian students from across the country can present their works and talk with the scientists at the site, motivating youngsters to pursue a career in Science. We also participate in the local parade, commemorating the foundation of Malargüe. We have developed numerous activities and interactive tools, including a 3-D event display. We have an open data policy and share them according to FAIR principles. Recently, we joined the International Masterclasses within the International Particle Physics Outreach Group, using a framework similar to the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations. In this contribution, we summarize all of our Outreach activities.

The Cherenkov Telescope Array view of the Galactic Center region

Abstract: Among all the high-energy environments of our Galaxy, the Galactic Center (GC) region is definitely the richest. It harbors a large amount of non-thermal emitters, including the closest supermassive black hole, dense molecular clouds, regions with strong star forming activity, multiple supernova remnants and pulsar wind nebulae, arc-like radio structures, as well as the base of what may be large-scale Galactic outflows, possibly related to the Fermi Bubbles. It also contains a strong diffuse TeV gamma-ray emission along the Galactic ridge, with a disputed origin, including the presence of a possible Pevatron, unresolved sources, and an increased relevance of the diffuse sea of cosmic rays. This very rich region will be one of the key targets for the next generation ground-based observatory for gamma-ray astronomy, the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA). Here we review the CTA science case for the study of the GC region, and present the planned survey strategy. These observations are simulated and we assess CTA’s potential to better characterize the origin and nature of a selection of gamma-ray sources in the region.

Multi-Objective K-Center Sum Clustering Problem
Soumen Atta, Priya Ranjan Sinha Mahapatra, 2015, published scientific conference contribution

Abstract: Given a set P of n objects in two dimensional plane and a positive integer k (≤ n), we have considered the problem of partitioning P into k clusters of circular shape so as to minimize the following two objectives: (i) the sum of radii of these k circular clusters and (ii) the number of points of P covered by more than one circular cluster. The NSGA-II based multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) has been proposed to solve this problem.

"Meja je tu umetna, sodelovanje je treba nadgraditi."
Ivana Zajc, 2020, other component parts

Abstract: V Gorici že skoraj 60 let deluje Kulturni center Lojze Bratuž, kjer se srečuje slovenska skupnost. Tam gojijo kulturo, šport in ljubiteljsko dejavnost. Čezmejni prostor mora še tesneje sodelovati - je ob obisku poudaril novogoriški župan Klemen Miklavič.
