REGIONAL POTENTIAL FOR SUSTAINABLE ENERGY SUPPLY IN CROATIA : MASTER'S THESIS

Abstract: The master thesis aims to find the optimal model for a new energy company that considers regional potential, supports sustainable development, and fits the circular economy concept in a region. The idea of sustainable development is crucial today when we have more city areas and less countryside around the globe. Increased global population, industrial trends and modern living style are some of the reasons why the burden on our environment is more significant than ever in the history of humanity. The idea is to launch the new company in the Croatian region Osijek-Baranja, which is less developed and not attractive to tourists. A newly established company will produce electric energy from renewable energy sources. The multi-criterion decision support methods were used to determine the optimal energy source between wind, biogas and sun. Results show that the biogas has the most significant sustainable potential in chosen boundary conditions. The cash flows and other economic indicators are shown for a farm of 500 milking cows in the chosen region as a source of biogas. The risk assessments method estimated the boundaries of the company success and adaptability to possible changes. One of the critical aspects of the project is the company's organizational structure, where a vertical hierarchy with a flexible and fluid, circular organization model with network culture was proposed. Clear communication about the project will help establish trust with the local community. Based on the biogas plant, the proposed company reduces biodegradable waste in the green energy production process. It is shown quantitatively that besides being economically sustainable, it also suits the region's potential, supports energy self-supply, and involves local people - it aims to the long-term sustainable growth of the region, rather than short-term capital growth.

Monetisation of the ecological footprint in energy supply of buildings

Abstract: The ecological footprint of modern life exceeds the biocapacity of our environment in Slovenia as well. With a simplified monetization of natural resources and waste, the economic and environmental advantages of renewables compared to fossil sources in the case of energy supply of buildings were illustrated. Experience with current energy market volatility and the extension of the EU-ETS are strong signals to accelerate the energy transition towards sustainable energy also in the building sector.

Whole-life carbon emissions benchmarks for buildings in Slovenia

Abstract: According to the European Green Deal decarbonisation of EU building stock is needed on the way to turning EU into the first climate neutral continent by 2050. Directive (2010/31/EU) EPBD led to significant reduction of operational energy in new buildings and renovation. By energy efficiency first principle and by increasing renewable energy sources it contributed to reduction of primary energy and operational CO2 emissions. But the orientation towards lifecycle thinking and circularity in the building sector revealed the need to tackle the whole-life carbon emissions, where the operational and embodied carbon contribute significantly. In the absence of benchmarks for embodied carbon emissions in this contribution the operational and embodied carbon indicators from recent studies are compared with the available corresponding data in Slovenian energy performance certificates.

Pregled, analiza in predlog alternativne oskrbe z energijo - LDC Letališka : Logistično Distribucijski Center Mercator Ljubljana

Abstract: Osnovna varianta temelji na podatkih, dimenzijah in ocenah v že izdelani projektni dokumentaciji, razen v tistih delih, kjer smo lahko podali natančnejše ocene na osnovi namensko pridobljenih podatkov in ocen v času izdelave te analize od dobavitelja toplotne energije Energetika Ljubljana, Statističnega urada RS in renomiranega slovenskega proizvajalca in projektanta sistemov na osnovi vrhunskih toplotnih črpalk Kronoterm. V predlagani varianti 1 se ogrevanje prostorov izvede s toplotnimi črpalkami voda/voda in priklop na sistem daljinskega ogrevanja v določenem obsegu. Hlajenje prostorov je izvedeno z istimi toplotnimi črpalkami voda/voda, ta varianta pa omogoča tudi pasivno hlajenje s podtalnico. Varianta 1 poleg okoljskih (gretje in hlajenje prostorov LDC Mercator z 68,5 % obnovljivih virov energije) kaže tudi izrazite ekonomske prednosti pred osnovno varianto: • za 280.000 EUR ali za 47 % nižja investicija; • za 76.504 EUR ali za 54 % nižji letni vseživljenjski stroški; • v 15 letih 1.469.270 EUR prihranka pri oskrbi z energijo. Posebej opozarjamo na dvigovanje cene EU-ETS emisijskih kuponov, ki bodo glede na napovedi tudi v bodoče imeli pomembnejši vpliv na ceno toplote iz sistema daljinskega ogrevanja Energetika Ljubljana. Investicija v sončno elektrarno izboljša finančni tok oskrbe z energijo LDC Mercator v vseh variantah in kljub visoki investiciji v 15 letih investitorju prinese občutne finančne koristi ter dvigne delež obnovljivih virov na 76,9 %. Prodaja odpadne toplote izboljša finančno bilanco oskrbe z energijo LDC Mercator, vendar zahteva dodatno investicijo in je občutljiva na odkupno ceno odpadne toplote. Rast cene emisijskih kuponov kljub vsemu daje nezanemarljivi potencial tej varianti in je po preliminarnih informacijah zanimiva za Energetiko Ljubljana, še posebej v kombinaciji z aktualnim razpisom Norveškega mehanizma, ki izkoriščanja podtalnice uvršča med upravičene namene. Analiza občutljivosti pokaže, da ima zvišanje cene toplote iz SDO ali električne energije manjši vpliv na predlagano varianto 1 v vseh kombinacijah, kot na osnovno varianto. Pri variantah s sončno elektrarno je NSV bolj občutljiva na višino investicije, vendar podražitev električne energije pri vseh variantah prinese zmanjšanje vseživljenjskih stroškov. Zvišanje cene toplote iz SDO ima zanemarljiv vpliv na vseživljenjske stroške predlagane variante 1, kar zmanjšuje tveganje zvišanja stroškov za ogrevanje zaradi nepredvidljive, a hitro naraščajoče cene emisijskih kuponov, ki jih z administrativnimi ukrepi ne moremo kompenzirati. Visok delež obnovljivih virov energije pri predlagani varianti 1 v vseh oblikah omogoča, da na ne-administrativen način LDC Mercator izpolni standarde skoraj nič-energijskih stavb (sNES) in s tem stopi med vodilne primere dobre prakse trajnostne gradnje.

Nadgradnja sistema daljinskega ogrevanja s trajnostno energijo : magistrsko delo

Abstract: V magistrski nalogi smo na podlagi podrobne analize obstoječega sistema daljinskega ogrevanja predlagali variantne nadgradnje, ki bodo znižale ceno ogrevanja in povečale energetsko učinkovitost skladno s strategijo EU in Slovenije na področju trajnostnega ogrevanja stavb. Izgube sistema smo po znižanju temperature vtoka glavnega razvoda iz 75°C na 65°C znižali z 21,68 % na 16,28 %. V analizi trajnostnih in okoljskih vidikov zamenjave obstoječega energenta smo izvedli primerjavo različnih energentov upoštevajoč izkoristek posameznega sistema. Naredili smo primerjavo med zemeljskim plinom, sekanci, peleti in toplotna črpalka (TČ). Podrobneje smo analizirali TČ za objekt 14 in ugotovili da je TČ je ekonomsko in trajnostno v analiziranem primeru najučinkovitejša rešitev. V prvi fazi ekonomske analize smo naredili izračun denarnega toka za sanacijo izolacije glavnega razvoda. Ocena znižanja obratovalnih stroškov temelji na znižanju toplotnih izgub vročevoda s 16,28 % na 4,71 %. Investicija se povrne v 10 letih. Ocena finančnih kazalnikov investicije v TČ brez sanacije izolacije glavnega razvoda za vse objekte upošteva prihranke zgolj zaradi nižje cene toplote iz TČ v primerjavi s plinskim kotlom.
