4674. Extraction of Organochlorine Pesticides from Plastic Pellets and Plastic Type AnalysisMaryline Pflieger, Petra Makorič, Manca Kovač Viršek, Špela Koren, 2017, pregledni znanstveni članek Opis: Plastic resin pellets, categorized as microplastics (≤5 mm in diameter), are small granules that can be unintentionally released to the
environment during manufacturing and transport. Because of their environmental persistence, they are widely distributed in the oceans and
on beaches all over the world. They can act as a vector of potentially toxic organic compounds (e.g., polychlorinated biphenyls) and might
consequently negatively affect marine organisms. Their possible impacts along the food chain are not yet well understood. In order to assess the
hazards associated with the occurrence of plastic pellets in the marine environment, it is necessary to develop methodologies that allow for rapid
determination of associated organic contaminant levels. The present protocol describes the different steps required for sampling resin pellets,
analyzing adsorbed organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and identifying the plastic type. The focus is on the extraction of OCPs from plastic pellets
by means of a pressurized fluid extractor (PFE) and on the polymer chemical analysis applying Fourier Transform-InfraRed (FT-IR) spectroscopy.
The developed methodology focuses on 11 OCPs and related compounds, including dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and its two main
metabolites, lindane and two production isomers, as well as the two biologically active isomers of technical endosulfan. This protocol constitutes
a simple and rapid alternative to existing methodology for evaluating the concentration of organic contaminants adsorbed on plastic pieces.

Razmerje med tujino in domovino na zemljevidu Maruše KreseZala Pavšič, 2017 Opis: Prispevek predstavlja razmišljanja o odnosu med tujino in domovino slovenske pisateljice in novinarke Maruše Krese (1947–2013), ki je med osamosvajanjem Slovenije prebivala v Berlinu. Poleg analize njene poezije, ki kaže na potrebo po preseganju meja nacionalnega, identitete in sorodnih konceptov, članek zajema tudi do sedaj še neobravnavana razmišljanja Maruše Krese o osamosvojitvi Slovenije, ki jih je avtorica skupaj s tremi somišljenicami podala v korespondenci Briefe von Frauen über Krieg und Nationalismus. Prispevek vključuje tudi kritične odzive na omenjeno delo ter umešča Marušo Krese v izseljensko književnost.

KARREN OF THE KAMENJAK HUM (DALMATIAN KARST, CROATIA); FROM THE INITIAL DISSECTION OF FLAT SURFACESEla Šegina, 2015, izvirni znanstveni članek Opis: Rock relief is an important trace of the formation and development of karst phenomena on various carbonate rock. The existing current state is usually in a rich and diverse stage of homogeneous or heterogeneous development. The various forms of rock relief represent different ways and conditions a karst phenomenon formed and the developmental levels under the same conditions and with the same factors. Research into the connections between different developmental models is therefore necessary. Over time, not only rock relief but also rock forms begin to merge with one another. We are looking at the initial period of the development of a thick rock strata due to rain. On gently sloping rock strata, which tend to disintegrate at the edges, especially when they are inclined downwards, characteristic rock relief forms on the flat surfaces of larger planes, initially due to rainwater and sheets of creeping water and later through three-dimensional dissection and primarily the direct action of rainwater.

Proposals for integrating karst aquifer evaluation methodologies into national environmental legislationsKatarina Kosič Ficco, 2015 Opis: Characterization of karst aquifers in order to reduce the impacts of human activities on these vital groundwater resources poses a significant challenge for scientists, land managers and policy makers. Methods and criteria for improvement of karst management have been suggested by the scientific community in order to assure the preservation of karst groundwater resources. However, these methods are rarely integrated into national groundwater protection policies. A case-based study of a swine confined animal feeding operation sited on mantled karst terrain in the southern Ozark Highlands in the State of Arkansas, United States of America helped illustrate why karst-specific evaluation methods should be implemented in national legislation. Through the review of the area’s geomorphology and hydrogeology, dye tracer test results, and existing state and federal legislation and permitting processes for confined animal feeding operations, proposed improvements to existing legislation for confined animal feeding operations were developed. The study provides an example of how integrating science into policy-making can enhance protection of valuable groundwater resources.
