Abstract:Morske bakterije so najbolj številčni organizmi v morskem ekosistemu in imajo pomembno vlogo v biogeokemičnih procesih kroženja snovi. V vzorcih izpostavljenih onesnažilom smo zaznali predvsem povišano rast bakterij predstavnikov družine Alteromonadaceae, medtem ko so bili nekateri predstavniki bakterij družine Rhodobacteraceae inhibirani. Rezultati so potrdili potencialno uporabo mikrobioloških analiz za zaznavanje sprememb, ki jih povzroči izpostavljenost naravne bakterijske združbe mešanici nevarnih kemikalij, ter opozorili na vprašanje dopustnih mejnih vrednosti predpisanih koncentracij onesnažil.

Title:Response of the microbial community to a mixture of hazardous compounds
Abstract:Marine bacteria are the most abundant organisms and have an important role in biogeochemical cycles in marine ecosystems.. Pollutants enter the marine environment through different point and non-point sources, representing risk to human health, marine animals and causing changes in the ecosystem. Based on their diverse sensitivity, microorganisms can serve as indicators of environmental changes. Within this study, a laboratory experiments in bach culture were performed, in order to determine interactions between pollutants and naturale population of microorganisms in the seawater of the Gulf of Trieste. Natural microbial community was exposed to two different mixtures of chemicals in safe limit concentrations, prescribed by European legislation and to one mixture with 10 times higher concentrations. By using classical and moleculare microbiological methods for determination of bacterial abundance, bacterial production and community structure analyses, we tested the impact of chemical mixtures on natural microbial community in two different seasons (summer, spring). The results showed stimulated bacterial growth and abundance in all samples exposed to pollutants. Only, the bacterial abundance was lower in the samples exposed to pollutants at safe-limit concentrations in comparison to control seawater sample. Increased growth of representatives of Alteromonadaceae family was observed in the samples exposed to pollutants, while representatives of Rhodobacteraceae family were decreased. The results confirmed the potential use of microbiological methods to identify changes, caused by the exposure of the natural bacterial community to mixture of chemical pollutants and pointed out the importance to evaluate the issue of the prescribed safe-limit concentrations.
