Title:Fright fascinates children : How to make a horror story for a younger audience?
Abstract:Horror is a genre which strongly depends on its audience's response and its reflections of emotions. According to philosopher Noël Carrol, horror includes monsters, created in five different ways, and also has its own story plot movements and phases. If we look at its history in the film industry, it is about a one hundred twenty-five years old and is, for different reasons, enjoyed by adults and children alike. Children enjoy horror because of their enhanced curiosity and social motivations. Children's horror is an adapted version of horror meant for adults, created with the help of mitigating techniques. Children's horror film is also younger, its creation and popularity came into the picture after the introduction of the rating systems in the late sixties. My animated film Elsie was made before the research presented in this written work, the third chapter is therefore an analysis of that film as a horror and children's horror film.
