Title:Habitus+Capital= : Diploma thesis
Abstract:The thesis Habitus + Capital = essentially explores the role of photography as a tool for expanding the perception of the individual and, consequently, of society. The theoretical part of the thesis is in favor of the practical part, which in other words means a combining of techniques to present the fields of social documentary photography and its impact. In combination with the therapeutic role of the photographic medium, the assignment addresses the question of whether the social environment in which we live changes individual mindset and, in the long term, consequently society, and vice versa. The theoretical part starts with the author's personal approach to photography, through which a chapter on photography as a tool for expanding perception is presented. Then, the basic concepts are presented and based on the findings of the second part of the book General Sociology, which are focused on the understanding of the title of the thesis. This is followed by a brief presentation of the history of photography, which then focuses on the key changes in the perception of photography as a medium. In this context, we also learn about the differences between reportage, documentary and contemporary approaches to the medium. In the main part, we learn more about the important photographers who have contributed outstanding works related to the therapeutic aspect of photography, followed by a description of a series of social documentary photographs (practical part) and how this relates to the overall concept. In the practical part of the thesis, a series of social-documentary photographs made over a year, the following world-famous names played a key role in the choice of technique and approach to the subject: Andreas Gursky, Edward Burtynsky, Stephen Shore and Pierre Bourdieu. Through a series of photographs, the thesis goes on to present various social achievements in the chosen fields that reflect the research question. The photographs aim above all to encourage young people to explore themselves and to construct a personal identity in relation to their social environment, since this can lead to visions that transcend the apparent boundaries we know as a result of the cultural, social or symbolic aspects of capital.
