Abstract:	This paper describes a logical property of pronouns which accounts for their universal presence in natural languages. A method for classifying pronouns in Vietnamese is then proposed, followed by a discussion on the relationship between acceptability and triviality, in which the formal implications of social meanings are examined as a phenomenon relevant for the investigation into the interface between logic and pragmatics. The paper ends with an analysis of the difference between Vietnamese and English regarding the use of proper names to refer to discourse participants.
