Biotransformation of copper oxide nanoparticles by the pathogenic fungus Botrytis cinerea
Eva Kovačec, Marjana Regvar, Johannes Teun van Elteren, Iztok Arčon, Tamás Papp, Darko Makovec, Katarina Vogel-Mikuš, 2017, original scientific article

Abstract: Two plant pathogenic fungi, Botrytis cinerea and Alternaria alternata, isolated from crop plants, were exposed to Cu in ionic (Cu2þ), microparticulate (MP, CuO) or nanoparticulate (NP, Cu or CuO) form, in solid and liquid culturing media in order to test fungal response and toxic effects of the mentioned compounds for the potential use as fungicides. B. cinerea has shown pronounced growth and lower levels of lipid peroxidation compared to A. alternata. Its higher resistance/tolerance is attributed mainly to biotransformation of CuO and Cu NPs and CuO MPs into a blue compound at the fungal/culturing media interface, recognized by Cu K-edge EXAFS analysis as Cu-oxalate complex. The pronounced activity of catechol-type siderophores and organic acid secretion in B. cinerea induce leaching and mobilization of Cu ions from the particles and their further complexation with extracellularly secreted oxalic acid. The ability of pathogenic fungus to biotransform CuO MPs and NPs hampers their use as fungicides. However the results show that B. cinerea has a potential to be used in degradation of Cu(O) nanoparticles in environment, copper extraction and purification techniques.

Explicit Feature Construction and Manipulation for Covering Rule Learning Algorithms
Nada Lavrač, Johannes Fuernkranz, Dragan Gamberger, 2010, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph

Abstract: Features are the main rule building blocks for rule learning algorithms. They can be simple tests for attribute values or complex logical terms representing available domain knowledge. In contrast to common practice in classification rule learning, we argue that separation of the feature construction and rule construction processes has theoretical and practical justification. Explicit usage of features enables a unifying framework of both propositional and relational rule learning and we present and analyze procedures for feature construction in both types of domains. It is demonstrated that the presented procedure for constructing a set of simple features has the property that the resulting set enables construction of complete and consistent rules whenever it is possible, and that the set does not include obviously irrelevant features. Additionally, the concept of feature relevancy is important for the effectiveness of rule learning. It this work, we illustrate the concept in the coverage space and prove that the relative relevancy has the quality-preserving property in respect to the resulting rules. Moreover, we show that the transformation from the attribute to the feature space enables a novel, theoretically justified way of handling unknown attribute values. The same approach enables that estimated imprecision of continuous attributes can be taken into account, resulting in construction of robust features in respect to this imprecision.

Status and Prospects of the Auger Engineering Radio Array
Johannes Schulz, Andrej Filipčič, Gašper Kukec Mezek, Ahmed Saleh, Samo Stanič, Marta Trini, Darko Veberič, Serguei Vorobiov, Lili Yang, Danilo Zavrtanik, Marko Zavrtanik, 2015, published scientific conference contribution

Abstract: The Auger Engineering Radio Array (AERA) is an extension of the Pierre Auger Observatory. It is used to detect radio emission from extensive air showers in the 30 - 80 MHz frequency band. A focus of interest is the dependence of the radio emission on shower parameters such as the energy and the atmospheric depth of the shower maximum. After three phases of deployment, AERA now consists of 153 autonomous radio stations with different spacings, covering an area of about 17 km2. The size, station spacings, and geographic location at the same site or near other Auger extensions, are all targeted at cosmic ray energies above 10[sup]17 eV. The array allows us to explore different technical schemes to measure the radio emission as well as to cross calibrate our measurements with the established baseline detectors of the Auger Observatory. We present the most recent technological developments and selected experimental results obtained with AERA.

SISTEM ZA POMOČ PRI IZBIRI OBLIKE SPLETNEGA OGLASNEGA SPOROČILA ZA INFORMIRANJE IZBRANIH TIPOV UPORABNIKOV
Johannes Vuga Gregorič, 2016, master's thesis

Abstract: Namen dela je preučitev vpliva podajanja informacij z oglasnim sporočilom ciljnemu prejemniku. Merili smo sprejemanje, razumevanje, pomnjenje in vizualizacijo sporočila.
