Življenje kuharja : zgodovinski pregled dokumentarne fotografije in njenega razvoja
Marcel Kump, 2025, undergraduate thesis

Abstract: Diplomsko delo Življenje Kuharja se posveča dokumentaciji kuharskega poklica, ter kako ta vpliva na osebno življenje, prijateljstva in prosti čas kuhanja.

Inference of the Mass Composition of Cosmic Rays with Energies from 10[sup]18.5 to 10[sup]20 eV Using the Pierre Auger Observatory and Deep Learning
A. Abdul Halim, Andrej Filipčič, Jon Paul Lundquist, Shima Ujjani Shivashankara, Samo Stanič, Serguei Vorobiov, Danilo Zavrtanik, Marko Zavrtanik, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: We present measurements of the atmospheric depth of the shower maximum Xmax, inferred for the first time on an event-by-event level using the Surface Detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory. Using deep learning, we were able to extend measurements of the Xmax distributions up to energies of 100 EeV (10[sup]20 eV), not yet revealed by current measurements, providing new insights into the mass composition of cosmic rays at extreme energies. Gaining a 10-fold increase in statistics compared to the Fluorescence Detector data, we find evidence that the rate of change of the average Xmax with the logarithm of energy features three breaks at 6.5 ± 0.6 (stat) ± 1 (sys) EeV, 11 ± 2 (stat) ± 1 (sys) EeV, and 31 ± 5 (stat) ± 3 (sys) EeV, in the vicinity to the three prominent features (ankle, instep, suppression) of the cosmic-ray flux. The energy evolution of the mean and standard deviation of the measured Xmax distributions indicates that the mass composition becomes increasingly heavier and purer, thus being incompatible with a large fraction of light nuclei between 50 EeV and 100 EeV.

2025, radio or television broadcast, podcast, interview, press conference

Abstract: Kulturni, umetniški dosežki, spoznanja in znanja, vedenja, predstave, ideje, verovanja, pravni dokumenti, etični kodeksi, nenazadnje politični in družbeni sistemi, so se po različnih civilizacijah širili neovirano, krožili nenačrtno, z navdušenimi posamezniki, z državnimi podporami, včasih pa so poniknili in bili znova najdeni in izumljeni, neredko, sploh v primerih imperializma in kolonializma, tudi izkoreninjeni. Measurement of the depth of maximum of air-shower profiles with energies between ▫$10^{18.5} and 10^{20}$▫ eV using the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory and deep learning
A. Abdul Halim, P. Abreu, M. Aglietta, Andrej Filipčič, Jon Paul Lundquist, Shima Ujjani Shivashankara, Samo Stanič, Serguei Vorobiov, Danilo Zavrtanik, Marko Zavrtanik, 2025, original scientific article

Abstract: We report an investigation of the mass composition of cosmic rays with energies from 3 to 100 EeV (1 EeV = 10[sup]18 eV) using the distributions of the depth of shower maximum Xmax. The analysis relies on ∼50,000 events recorded by the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory and a deep-learning-based reconstruction algorithm. Above energies of 5 EeV, the dataset offers a 10-fold increase in statistics with respect to fluorescence measurements at the Observatory. After cross-calibration using the fluorescence detector, this enables the first measurement of the evolution of the mean and the standard deviation of the Xmax distributions up to 100 EeV. Our findings are threefold: (i) The evolution of the mean logarithmic mass toward a heavier composition with increasing energy can be confirmed and is extended to 100 EeV. (ii) The evolution of the fluctuations of Xmax toward a heavier and purer composition with increasing energy can be confirmed with high statistics. We report a rather heavy composition and small fluctuations in Xmax at the highest energies. (iii) We find indications for a characteristic structure beyond a constant change in the mean logarithmic mass, featuring three breaks that are observed in proximity to the ankle, instep, and suppression features in the energy spectrum.

Diskretnost seznamov in informacijski obrat v humanistiki
Narvika Bovcon, Aleš Vaupotič, 2024, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph

Splitting friends, wives, and boxes of books
Tue Trinh, 2017, independent scientific component part or a chapter in a monograph

Abstract: Cross-linguistic variation with respect to the pronunciation of topicalized verbs make up most of my argument for the Edge Condition (EC), a principle of chain linearization, in Trinh (2009, 2010). In section 5 of Trinh (2009), I argue that variation within Vietnamese with respect to the pronunciation of split NPs also supports EC. After the publication of that paper, I became aware of some additional facts about NP-Split in Vietnamese, which I then discussed in chapter 3 of my dissertation. I believe these facts and my analysis of them suffice to warrant presentation in a small but self-contained contribution. The present squib, which is a contribution to a Festschrift for David Pesetsky, is a long overdue result of that belief, and I am particularly happy about its venue of publication, as David Pesetsky’s guidance and support were essential in all of my works on this topic.

Colloidal metal nanoparticles as a source for the growth of thin films
Saim Emin, 2022, published scientific conference contribution abstract (invited lecture)

Abstract: Synthesis of colloidal nanoparticles (NPs) which offer good colloidal stability is quite important for different applications like spin-coating, dip-coating etc. Having metallic nanoparticles in the form of stable suspension allow the generation of thin films with desired thicknesses. We will present the production of different classes of materials starting from colloidal metal NPs. An example will be given on the preparation of Fe2O3 and WO3 thin films which are used in photoelectrochemical oxidation of water (e.g. water splitting). Another transformation which involves metallic NPs include the preparation of MoSe2 and WSe2 thin films which is achieved in a tube furnace at elevated temperatures. Very recently, the use of metallic NPs were also extended for the preparation of transition metal carbides. We managed to produce W2C and WC phases starting from metallic W NPs. The details of this phase conversion will be discussed. The presentation will provide details on how transition metallic NPs can be used to prepare metal oxide, metal selenide and metal carbides.
