Effective microorganisms technology applied to sewage sludge and tested in short exposure on Lepidium sativum
Tanja Buh, Leja Goljat, Darian Rampih, Petra Makorič, Sara Pignattelli, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: Sewage sludge has fertilizer properties and can supply a large amount of necessary nutrients to the crops, because it is full of organic matter, carbon, nitrogen and other nutrients, but on the other hand, it also contains a lot of toxic compounds, derived from its origin, such as heavy metals, antibiotics and microplastics. Effective microorganisms are a collection of naturally occurring beneficial microorganisms that are able to coexist and are commonly used in agriculture and gardening to improve plant performance and production. In this study, increasing concentrations of sewage sludge alone and added with effective microorganisms were evaluated in a short exposure on Lepidium sativum L. Parameters that were evaluated are: (i) percentage inhibition of germination, (ii) root length, (iii) biomass, (iv) soil pH, (v) total organic carbon and nitrogen both at soil and at root level. Results carried out from our experiment highlighted that effective microorganisms when coupled with sludge are able to restore biometric parameters by resetting seeds germinability inhibition and improving root elongation more than 50% when compared with plants added only with sludge, restoring the values almost of those to the control plants, as well as for soil pH values. Total organic carbon and total nitrogen are boosted at soil level almost at 50% when compared with the same concentrations added only with sludge, while at root level they appear decreased only in plants directly added with sludge treated with effective microorganisms

Air-water interface-assisted synthesis and charge transport characterization of quasi-2d polyacetylene films with enhanced electron mobility via ring-opening polymerization of pyrrole
Kejun Liu, Nadiia Pastukhova, Egon Pavlica, Gvido Bratina, Xinliang Feng, 2024, other component parts

Abstract: Water surfaces catalyze some organic reactions more effectively, making them unique for 2D organic material synthesis. This report introduces a new synthesis method via surfactant-monolayer-assisted interfacial synthesis on water surfaces for ring-opening polymerization of pyrrole, producing distinct polypyrrole derivatives with polyacetylene backbones and ionic substitutions. The synthesis result in quasi 2D polyacetylene (q2DPA) film with enhanced charge transport behavior. We employed time-of-flight photoconductivity (TOFP) measurements using pulsed laser light of tunable wavelength for photoexcitation of the charge carriers within the q2DPA film. The charge transport was measured in the lateral direction as a function of external bias voltage ranging from 0 V to 200 V. We observed high electron mobility ({\mu}) of q2DPA reaching values of 375 cm2 V-1 s-1 at bias voltage Vb = -20V and photon energy of 3.8 eV.

"I've always spoke like this, you see" : preterite-to-participle leveling in American and British Englishes
Alicia Chatten, Kimberley Baxter, Erwanne Mas, Jailyn Peña, Guy Tabachnick, Daniel Duncan, Laurel MacKenzie, 2024, original scientific article

Abstract: Some English verbs use distinct forms for the preterite (i.e., simple past; e.g., I broke the door) and the past participle (e.g., I’ve broken the door). These verbs may variably show use of the preterite form in place of the participle (e.g., I’ve broke the door), which the authors call participle leveling. This article contributes the first detailed variationist study of participle leveling by investigating the phenomenon in perfect constructions using data collected from three corpora of conversational speech: two of American English and one of British English. A striking degree of similarity is found between the three corpora in both the linguistic and the extralinguistic constraints on variation. Constraints on participle leveling include tense of the perfect construction, verb frequency, and phonological similarity between preterite and participle forms. The variable is stable in real time and socially stratified. The article relates the findings to theoretical linguistic treatments of the variation and to questions of its origin and spread in Englishes transatlantically.

Podatkovna zbirka rezultatov naloge presoje sprejemljivosti stavkov, ki so permutacijske različice osnovnega besednega reda v srbohrvaščini
Arthur Stepanov, 2024, complete scientific database of research data
