3. The coded literary discourse of the Senjam Song Festival of BenečijaAna Toroš, 2022, original scientific article Abstract: The following article discusses the poetic output in Beneška Slovenia (Benečija) written for the Senjam Song Festival of Benečija. While considering the context of the region’s history and migrations, it focuses on the literary aspects of the festival, particularly on the analysis of the themes and the poetry writing technique. It builds on certain theoretical premises from literary imagology and psychoanalysis. The subject of the analysis are the lyrics from the period between 1971 and 2012, published in a three-volume collection featuring over 150 authors. The article notes the following most prevalent themes: issues of assimilation, migration, and the dying of villages in Benečija. Categorised by basic mood, they fall under one of two extremes: they are either cheerful and humorous in order to encourage and bring joy and hope to the Slovenes of Benečija; or they are pervaded with deep pain and concern over the situation in their region. The lyrics of the latter use a particular writing technique, which merely hints at the pressures of assimilation, conveying them through images and metaphors.

4. Minority Literature in the Majority Language: a New Paradigm? The Case of theAna Toroš, 2021, original scientific article Abstract: The present paper addresses the issue of bilingual literature and studies the relations between the majority language and the minority language within the literature of minority authors. By using the close reading method we examined the contemporary phenomenon of producing literature in the majority (Italian) language by the authors of the Slovenian origin living in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Italy. In this regard we found out that the linguistic shift from the minority (Slovenian) language to the majority (Italian) language does not inevitably lead to the breakage of the links with the collective memory of the Slovenian minority community in Italy and thus does not induce a change in the manner of the literalization of the living space of the Slovenian minority in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

5. Minority literature and collective trauma : the case of Slovene Triestine literatureAna Toroš, 2021, original scientific article Abstract: The study focuses on the relationship between minority literature and collective trauma.
Drawing on the theory of trauma, psychoanalysis, memory studies, and literary representations
of memory, we argue that the trauma resulting from the suppression of Slovene
identity in Trieste during fascism is transmitted into literary discourse through two
channels. Firstly, through the normative model of remembering the trauma in question –
namely through literary works that can be described as fictions of memory. Secondly, we
paid attention to the manifestations of trauma that (unconsciously) enter the narrative
structure, regardless of the time and events, which are not necessarily tied to the period

6. The role of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) in supporting literacy in the minority language among the Bulgaria diasporaGiustina Selvelli, 2019, published scientific conference contribution abstract Abstract: In this presentation I will illustrate the question of the Armenian language preservation among the diaspora members of the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv, where the community counts approximately 3500 members (1% of the total urban population).
To this aim, I will employ data gathered during ethnographic fieldwork as well information emerged from the analysis of the Armenian diaspora media in order to highlight the fundamental role of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), the largest Armenian non-profit organization that operates at a global level. Based in New York, the AGBU embodies the main educational institution across the Armenian diaspora worldwide and supports a number of social activities related the preservation of this minority language. In particular, I will focus the attention on the importance of the (Western) Armenian language classes organized by the AGBU Plovdiv Saturday School (in addition to the ones held at the local Armenian School Tiutiundjian) and the contents and articles published by the AGBU Bulletin (Parekordzagani Tzain), a bi-weekly and bilingual (Bulgarian-Armenian) newspaper.
Furthermore, I will treat the topic of the recent creation of the AGBU Armenian virtual college, an advanced online platform for learning the Armenian language, in line with the most modern technologies in language teaching, that has been employed in the last years during the classes at the AGBU Saturday School and which represents a significant innovation in the promotion of literacy in the mother tongue.
Finally, I will consider the importance of diaspora institutions such as the AGBU in fostering a specific language ideology that is inscribed in a discourse on ethnic identity and community’s survival in the context of globalization and which proves crucial in the improvement of the minority’s relationships with the Republic of Armenia.

7. Teaching minority literature: the case of TriesteAna Toroš, 2019, original scientific article Abstract: The paper presents the guidelines for teaching minority literature in the Trieste area, namely at the Slovenian and Italian high schools in Trieste. The teaching method proposed was created as a result of the need for new approaches in teaching literature due to the increasing heterogeneity of the population of high school students. The method takes into account the specific factors characteristic of the Triestine literary system, which affect the production and reception of literature in the Trieste area, that is the turbulent history of this territory during the 20th century and thus also the presence of various traumatic collective memories and postmemories present in this area. Considering these facts, the new teaching method is based on memory studies and literary imagology. In terms of the selection of literary texts it shifts from the nationally prescribed literature curriculum towards regional comparative literature.

9. Slovene-Friulian-Italian Literary Connections at the Beginning of the 20th Century: The Case of Alojz Gradnik and Select Friulian and Italian authorAna Toroš, 2017, original scientific article Abstract: Based on the case of Alojz Gradnik (1882–1967), this article deals with previously unresearched Slovene-Friulian-Italian literary connections that occurred during the last years of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the first years after WWI along the border of today’s Slovenia (Goriška Brda) and Italy (the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia: the Provinces of Gorizia, Udine and Trieste). The article highlights the parallels in motifs, themes, ideas and form, as well as the connections between Alojz Gradnik and select Friulian and Italian authors from this region. These links are the consequence of living in a joint cultural space and Gradnik’s Friulian family ties, especially with his cousin Maria Samer. The research uncovers certain differences in motifs, themes and ideas stemming from different national identities. Gradnik’s poetry is closest to Friulian lyrical poetry in their descriptions and experiences of a rural setting, predominantly the deep bond felt between the farming people and native land coupled with their terrible social strife. Gradnik and his contemporary Friulian authors also coincide in works with a nationalist theme – on the threshold of WWI both Slovene and Friulian authors infused their work with their personal vision for the future of their own community. They shared a negative literary depiction of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the wish to secure a better economic future, to protect and solidify their cultural heritage. Gradnik’s poetry and that of the contemporary Italian (irredentist) authors share a similar literary technique that depicted the national identities of today’s border between Italy and Slovenia; they were ideologically opposed however: while the Italians depicted the Italian view of the region, Gradnik highlights the presence of a Slavic element within the region

10. Minority writing: The case of Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Italy), Goriška and Coastal-Karst regions (Slovenia)Ana Toroš, 2017, original scientific article Abstract: This article discusses the literature of the national and linguistic minorities along the Slovene-Italian border area (Slovene and Friulian literature in Italy, Italian literature in Slovene Istria), comprised of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in Italy, and the Goriška and Coastal-Karst regions in neighbouring Slovenia. The discussion argues that a new methodological approach is needed to study these literatures, one that will upgrade the previous research (studying the literature's regional specifics, which stems from the authors' common living environment, regardless of their linguistic and national identity and the depiction of the foreign culture in minority literature), geared towards regional comparative literature The results of such studies would be useful to bolster the teaching material in literature classes in the given area.
