Abstract:Prometna nesreča je posledica prepleta različnih dejavnikov kot so: psihofizično stanje voznika, tehnične značilnosti vozila, kakovost cestišča in vpliv vremena.

Title:The Influence of Weather on the Frequency of Accidents and the Severity of the injuries
Abstract:Traffic accident is related to the interaction of several factors such as: psycho-physical condition of the driver, technical properties of the vehicle, quality of the road and weather. This thesis shows traffic accident trends in the areas of Ljubljana, Maribor and Nova Gorica, between the years 1995 and 2014. After the years of 2006/2007 decrease of accidents in all three areas has been noticed. Statistics show, that least accidents happen in July and August, while most happen in October. As for the week days, the most dangerous part of the week to be on the road is Friday, and the least dangerous is Sunday. The main purpose of this diploma was to analyse the relationship between the weather and the number of traffic accidents, as well as their consequences. Arithmetic mean, moving averages and Pearson's correlation coefficient have been used to describe the data and its connections. For determing annual, weekly and lunar cycle, we used periodogram method. Before identifying actual influence of the weather variability on traffic accidents, annual and weekly cycle has been removed from the traffic accidents data, and annual cycle from the meteorological variables. We found out that weather is not the main cause of risk for traffic accidents, as nearly 80% of all accidents happen in clear and cloudy weather. Of all the weather influences, precipitations have the largest impact. Longer sun exposure, wind speed, air pressure and daily air temperature have also been found as influential. The effect of the moon on a daily number of traffic accidents has been disproved.
