Title:Armenian Diaspora and Alphabet: Ethnosymbolism of an Identitary Writing
Abstract:The purpose of this work was to investigate the correlation between the maintenance of Armenian identity in a diasporic context and the use the national writing system, not so much at practical but rather at a symbolic level. The basic question was to understand the way in which the Armenian population, that experienced historical vicissitudes which have led it to disperse in all places in the world, managed to remain active at the level of national identity consciousness despite the lack of an independent motherland (up to twenty years ago) and the assimilatory tendencies of the various powers to which it has been subordinated.
